| Challenge Name | Pictures at an Exhibition |
| Challenge Type | Personal Challenge |
| Category | Miscellaneous |
| Description | Mussorgsky and Ravel composed 'Pictures at an Exhibition' based upon, as the title says, pictures on an exhibition and how the picture appealed to them. The music has no lyrics to describe the picture, relying instead on the instruments to convey the mood. (It's seriously good, go listen to it.) Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a oneshot fic that captures the mood and spirit of one of these pieces of music, whether it be a dark-ish fic along the lines of 'Bydlo', or a majestic piece like 'The Great Gate of Kiev'. How well the fic has fulfilled the challenge is determined by how it moves the reader, and whether the reader is moved the same way as the piece of music would move them. This would be a different sort of songfic, as there are no lyrics for you to quote, or get plot-ish ideas from. It should turn up some interesting fics :) You may use any source you like as a crossover, or write it as a non-crossover. |
