|Challenge Name||Time Out of Memory|
|Challenge Type||Personal Challenge|
|Category||Lord of the Rings > General > Theme: In Sunnydale|
|Description||I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan, so I decided to put this little challenge out for anyone who would like to see or try something a little different.|
In almost all of the challenges that I have seen thus far, it is always one of the BtVS or Angel characters who gets sent back to Middle-Earth for some reason. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this premise, I propose a twist.
Of all of the LotR characters, one of the characters that stands out the most for me (and is sorely under-used, in my opinion) is Lord Elrond. As an immortal elf, he has seen both the best and the worst that life has to offer. When he left Arda for the Undying Lands, he thought that he would have a simple life, reunited with his wife...or so he thought.
Centuries after the deaths of Aragorn and Arwen, Lord Elrond finds himself drawn away from the Undying Lands because of danger to someone of his bloodline...a descendant of Aragorn and Arwen. Without any warning whatsoever, he finds himself sent to a world that he no longer knows. Modern-day California.
Your challenge is this:
Write a story in which Lord Elrond plays an important role. One of the Scoobies is a descendant of Aragorn and Arwen, and thus is of the bloodline of Elrond, even if he or she is mortal now. There is some grave danger that only Elrond can prevent, either through the use of his healing abilities, or through the power of his elven ring, Vilya. (Yes, I know in the books that Vilya's power died with the One Ring, but that never made sense to me. Since the Three (Vilya, Nenya, and Narya) were never enslaved to the One Ring the way the Nine were, I always believed that their power should have remained strong and steady, even after the destruction of the One.)
-One of the Scoobies (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles) must be Elrond's descendant. (I would prefer it to be Buffy or Willow, but I'll leave it up to you if you can come up with a better idea.)
-There must be some crisis that can only be solved by Elrond because of his blood tie to the Scooby of choice.
-Elrond must be called to modern-day Sunnydale against his will, summoned by his blood tie to whichever Scooby it is. As a result, he must be completely baffled and bewildered by our world, and be horribly conspiculous until the Scoobies find him.
-If the Scooby happens to be Buffy, you cannot have her spill her secrets to Elrond automatically. Trust has to be earned. This also goes for Elrond discovering who his descendant is. Make it a bit of a mystery that has some type of startling revelation.
-No balance demons or guest appearances by anyone from Elrond's world to explain everything. This is a discovery story for everyone involved.
-The solution to the problem must lie in Elrond's skills as a healer, or the power that he wields through Vilya.
-No Elrond romance! The elf is several millennia old and he's happily married! He should be parental, but not attracted to any of the Scoobies.
-Elrond should be fascinated by what Aragorn and Arwen's descendants have become. He should see similarities between them (in looks, attitudes, etc.) but the descendant is not the reincarnated version of Aragorn or Arwen.
-Once the problem is solved, the descndant must be the key behind Elrond returning home. (And no, I am not talking about Dawn! In fact, I don't want to see Dawn as the descendant in question or have Glory be the unspecified danger)
Bonus Points for:
-Using someone other than one of the core Scoobies as Elrond's descendant (Oz, Anya, Tara, Cordelia (pre-Angel: The Series) even Jesse, if you really want to go overboard)
-Having a crisis that is on apocalyptic scale
-Having Elrond use both his healing powers and the power of Vilya to stop the danger
-A really unique way for Elrond to learn who his descendant is.
I really hope someone adopts this bunny! I would love to see more stories involving Elrond!
