DescriptionXander’s Real Family challenge.

Rogue, a.k.a.‘Anna-Marie’ (last name unknown), ran away from home when her mutant powers manifested, eventually leading her to the arms of the Brotherhood and, later, the X-men.

My challenge is this, after the loss of ‘Anna-Marie Harris’, the family moved to Sunnydale, where her younger brother Xander spends the next few years.

On his road-trip, Xander’s own mutation activates, granting him a weaker, but more controllable, form of Rogue’s powers.

Rogue has the power to absorb an individual’s memories, skills, energy, and, in the case of super-humans, powers, which activates automatically when she comes into physical contact with someone.

Xander has the ability to ‘leech’ the powers of other mutants (and only other mutants) when in physical contact, which he has to consciously turn off in order to touch others, the exception being his sister. As is the case with the Summers brothers, Rogue and Xander are incapable of using their abilities against each other.

When his powers activate, Xander draws the attention of both the Brotherhood, who want him for his abilities, and the X-men, where Rogue is able to recognize the younger brother she left behind.

It is important to note that, because of the differences in their powers, Rogue has an advantage over her brother. Whilst Xander steals only mutant abilities (temporarily), Rogue also absorbs memories, granting her the original mutant’s experience with their abilities and allowing her to use the powers with greater skill, whereas Xander must practice with complex abilities in order to use them to their fullest extent.

Bonus: When angry, Xander’s voice slips into a Southern accent similar to Rogue’s own, something which he tried to rid himself of when he arrived in Sunnydale.

Bonus 2: Though Xander is partial to the idea of returning to Sunnydale, due to the town’s express lack of mutants, he would be essentially powerless again and, though he’d be loathe to admit it, he really doesn’t like that idea.

Bonus 3: Xander has some issues with Rogue because, after she ran away, their parents turned to alcohol, becoming the psychologically and potentially physically abusive individuals that Xander spent years contending with.

Bonus 4: Xander is absolutely terrified of Jean Grey and Professor Xavier’s abilities, a result of his past experiences being mentally controlled by possessing spirits.
