Review of chapter "Trees" from (Past Donor)exiled
Review:
What Jack can't have layers? I could see this happening on the show. For such a short piece you really did a good job of capturing SG-1's voices.

Thanks
Comments from author:
Thank you kindly. I agree, Jack has many more layers than they usually showed on the series and he's certainly smarter and better educated (you can't survive as long as he has in that line of work or attain that high rank otherwise).

Charming! (And I always loved it when O'Neill revealed how much smarter and better educated he was than he generally allowed people to guess!)
Comments from author:
Thank you for the review! I'm embarrassed that I'm just now finding this so long after you posted it. *facepalms*

But yes, Jack definitely has a stealth mode when it comes to his intelligence. To use a cliché, those waters run very, very deep and all we see are the ripples around obstructions.

So very Jack! I love Teal'c too - characterisation is spot on. Made me smile.
Comments from author:
Thank you very kindly. :-D I've always thought that people underestimated Jack, even his own team. And there is definitely more beneath the surface that we never got to see in the series, which is why I love reading SG-1 fanfiction so much. :-)

Review:
Nice... I'd love to visit there one day, but the way things are going they'll be extinct by the time I've saved up enough for the trip :(
Comments from author:
Oh, not if I and a very large number of other people can help it. No worries, some of the old growth still exists in some of the parks, particularly the Smith River National Park. Humboldt Redwoods State Park and the Redwoods National Park are larger, but a lot of their trees are second growth. Shoot me an email if you ever head out there and I can recommend a couple of places.

Thank you for your review. And another 9! Man, you are spoilin' me here. :-D

Review of chapter "Trees" from Riversong
Review:
I had an experience like that when I was six driving north from Buffalo, NY into Canada. Being a desert rat, my image of a tree has an addendum that anything over fifty feet that isn't a palm tree really should have another name. This is great!
Comments from author:
I'm right there with ya. I grew up in a suburb of East LA, in the Pomona/Walnut valley (smog capital of California at the time). I will never forget the first time I saw a Giant Redwood. I was stunned that a tree could be that big, and they have such an air of ancient power about them. The Coast Redwoods, though not quite as large around, are taller and seem to have more "presence" to me and feel more like living creatures to me than plants.

Errr...I'm doing it again, aren't I?. *sheepish grin* Thank you for the review, Riversong!

P.S. Yeah, my Mom swears I was an Ent in a previous lifetime. ;-)

Me too. He is always a surprise and I wish RDA hadn't left the show, but at least we get a Jack fix in 5 episodes this year (on both SG-1 and Atlantis)! :-D

And thanks to Dave Turner, I'll be expanding on this drabble just a tad at a later date. Man gave me a nudge and I got WAY too many ideas.

Thanks for the review!

I love it they aren't trees they are TREES! How awesome. That is definitely one of the places I want to go before I die.

I also love it when Jack surprises everyone with knowledge. He is a smart man, he is just usually overshadowed by the brilliant minds of Sam and Daniel. I also love how he sometimes likes to play that he doesn't understand as much as he does.
Comments from author:
If you ever get the opportunity to go and see these magnificent trees, do so. If I ever hit the lottery that's where I'm going to live.

Thanks for the review!

Nice bit of writing very...evocative?

I'm only going to give it a seven coz the story doesn't go anywhere. What does it say other than you like Redwoods (and why not...indeed)? You almost had something there with the 'Jack having knowledge' thing but you didn't run with it...pity.

Keep writing and all the best,
Dave T.
Comments from author:
No, this one was just a short little punchline all it's own regarding Jack's attitude toward anything "geeky" and his dislike of planets with...gah...trees. I couldn't come up with a better way for Jack to pull one over on his entire team, that not only does he really like these trees, but has the geeky knowledge about them to go with it. They all know that Jack is a smart cooke, he just hides it verrrry well.

Hmmmm...although now you've given me an idea. I'll look into it after I've had some sleep (I'm about to fall out at the moment). You're quite dangerous idea wise, you know that, right?

I may also at a future date have him come up with something else similarly obscure and out of the clear blue for another drabble.

Thank you for the constructive criticism and encourage ment. And the ideas! :-)

*wishing I could go to that planet of ancient growth redwoods*
