I like that very much. It was short yet tied together the themes from V for Vendetta with Firefly. A very interesting take that I found rather bittersweet.

The whole V thing just seems sorta... tacked on. The cannibalized bits don't really serve any purpose but to make it count as a crossover (story-wise, not site-wise), and I imagine that if similar dialogue had been used and the story posted that way, nobody would have ever thought twice.

Maybe so. Still, the parallelling of themes struck me as interesting, and it seemed to make sense: every few hundred years, another kick in the seat of the pants delivered to the government.
Read it as purely Firefly if you like, but I didn't want to have River using such similar dialogue without crediting it. I certainly didn't just "tack those bits on" to make it count as a crossover.

Review of chapter "The V in River" from MarcusRowland
Review:
Unusually coherent for River.
Nice to see someone doing something with V for Vendetta, there ought to be a lot more fanfic than there is.
Comments from author:
River always struck me as the sort of person who'd use quotes from other people to express herself when having trouble articulating her own thoughts, and a lot of her dialogue here *is* quotes. I thought it made sense, especially after Miranda when she's finally solidifying her sense of self.
I agree that there should be more V fanfic; I suppose people just don't feel equal to tackling such an idea-driven movie. I'm not sure I could manage one set in the V timeline; here, the themes just struck me as similar enough that a parallel could be drawn.
