Ooh, nice idea, with the explosive.
Since I left that review, I've learned more about graveyards. Unless the graveyard is historically important, the graves will quite likely be disturbed, by people, for various reasons long before geologic processes will erode the graves. Probably not within the lifetime of anyone alive at burial time, but quite likely in something under 1000 years.
Of course, in canon, we know what happened to all the graves in Sunnydale just a few years later. But elsewhere... :) There's a possible plot bunny, someone with a legal (or not so legal) reason to dig up a grave discovering a trapped vampire.... :)

Yep, especially if the active infected have been scoured from the surface in the meantime. In 'The Zombie Survival Guide' and 'World War Z' by Max Brooks something similar probably happened that set everything off in the first place.
Hey, thanks :D As far as sci-fi/fantasy things go I'm not aware of a lot of curable stuff that could stop the heart beating for three hours other than time dilation fields (which by all rights would suspend the bomb's sensors anyway) and extremely advanced cold sleep... Ouch.
Nobody from the show. For him to be in the right age group he has to have graduated around Season 2 and I don't know of anybody on-screen who really fits the bill. I might have him be one of the college kids from Reptile Boy, now that I think about it, but no plans of yet :)

Ooh... nasty thing to do... leave that vamp there for a very very long time, wasting away with no blood... If there weren't philosophical issues involving a _possible_ trapped soul in limbo, I'd heartily approve. :)
It's likely not forever, though. Over geologic time, most graveyards will get eroded away. A _very_ hungry vampire is likely to be released someday...
In another fic, I think it was a CSI cross, a writer had an ME "in the know" deal with potential vamps by inserting a sliver of wood inside the corpse's heart...

Thanks and ouch, good point. Their arms might fossilize, but if they themselves didn't rot... eck. Well, hopefully natural weathering will expose them slowly enough and patchily enough for sunlight to dust most of them...
In another story I'm working on, there's a scifi-tech-empowered surgical operation involving a very small explosive attached to the heart. If the person's heart doesn't beat for three hours, the explosive detonates - ideally destroying the dead heart without altering the body's outside appearance overly.
Nice idea, but I'm not sure it would have worked like that, but who knows? I think you could have used this as a plot line for a somewhat longer fic (maybe 5000 words)? It could have developed into something better. Project for a later date?
All the best, Dave T.
