Beautiful vignettes!
I love the point you brought out in the first part, about the never-spoken-of mystery inherent in Mal coming out of the Alliance's hands as sane as he was AND somehow being able to buy even a junker firefly spaceship.
Nice connection between what the frilly party dress had represented for Kaylee, and what her relationship with Simon had become.
And I adore the idea of taciturn, antisocial Jayne standing lonely vigil over Book's grave, a year later, waiting for the rain to wash through, so he could speak to the Shepherd through his music.
