Review of chapter "6" from (Past Donor)Idhren
Love the tension between Harry's inner determination to remain normal and the Scoobies' derision of him as a 'dweeb'--Buffy's reaction to Harry's self-medication was priceless, and quite justified. And I found Harry's reaction to the lot of them being the world's first line of defense, and his automatic dismissal of Buffy's importance and the aid provided by the other non-magic-using members of the group quite telling. Regarding Harry's observations re: Gile's accent--I assume Gile's accent is much more 'posh' than Harry's, though it's not a detail I would have thought about until you brought the mutual British accent connection to our attention via Harry.

Hope you're still interested in continuing this fic--I can't wait to see where Harry goes with Dawn's help--but even if you're not, thanks for the two additional chapters you posted since my long-ago last review. I'm glad I reread it, especially as your 'grand name reveal' (driver's license Harry and 'Bunty' Summers oh my!) has to best on both sides I've found yet.

Review of chapter "6" from oldgirllost
I just came across this today and it seems that it has been long time since an update. Have you given up on it. Don't it seems to be quite good. I like what you've done with the characters and Harry against the First would be rather tremendous.

Thanks for starting this

Review of chapter "6" from NeilDingley
Like it so far, Love that Dawn and Harry seem to get on so well, can't wait till Buffy finds out her sister snuck out with their new guest while Giles was on "Dawn Patrol", oh a could Dawn turn out to be a Wand witch after all she was made out of magic so she surely she should have her own inner reserve of magic like a wizards core rather than having to use channeled magics like Willow.

PS kind of surprised Harry didn't heal Giles Injuries after all, a few broken ribs should be an easy fix for magic (and Harry is one person who should have really picked up some healing magics)

Review of chapter "6" from (Past Donor)Idhren
Oo...this is *fun*. I love that Buffy and Giles think Harry is a dweeb; I love how hard Harry is fighting his withdrawal from normal, and how he's getting sucked into caring and helping anyway. I love the simple clarity of your writing.

I can't think of anything to constructively criticize, so I'm afraid you'll have to update again before getting a more useful review!
Comments from author:
Thanks for the review. I've been feeling bad about not updating in so long, so a subtle kick up the backside is just what I need to get the juices flowing again. Your encouragement will not be in vain!

Review of chapter "6" from Tanydwr
I like that chapter.

Harry's treating Dawn as an adult - probably recalling how much he hated being kept out of the loop himself. Dawn's willing to accept him as he is - she hasn't got any pre-conceived notions.

Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to more.

Yeah, if there's one thing Harry learnt from the whole Voldemort thing, it's that kids are not useless. And of course, kids tend to be less guarded, and indeed less prejudiced, so you can get info out of them more easily. The question is: whose response is correct in that situation? The adults, Buffy and Giles, have reacted to Harry with distrust and dislike, which means that Harry will treat them accordingly. However, is Dawn's easy trust and acceptance well-placed, given what we know about Harry's mental state?

Having absolutely nothing else to do for the next, oh, two months, an update will probably happen sooner than usual.

Review of chapter "6" from AnnOfMidnight
Cool! This is how Dawn usually gets in trouble, but this time, although she may get in 'trouble' with Buffy and Giles, she won't get into the actual trouble she usually gets into. Right?

Oh, forget I said that-
Comments from author:
For her it's about boundaries. She's growing up, she's still seen as a kid by those around her, whereas Harry knows the crap HE got up to at her age (and younger) and sees her differently.

As for the trouble Dawn'll get into? Well, she's a trouble magnet, as is Harry. There'll be trouble all right.

Comments from author:
Thank you. I like the word 'awesome'. Did you know that when King James first saw Christopher Wren's re-built St Paul's Cathedral, he said it was 'awful, amusing and artificial'? It filled him with awe, it pleased him to look at and it was an astonishing creation of man. I know that's kind of a weird thing to say, but it's two in the morning and I'm rambling.

*claps excitedly* Dawn's getting involved! Oh, she and Harry have so much in common, this should be interesting :)
Comments from author:
Dawn's a very special person, and not just because of the whole glowy green thing. She and Harry have a whole thing happening, just you wait.

Review of chapter "6" from Fasor
very nicely coming along - i like how you have them experiencing harry - looking forward to more as usual :)
Comments from author:
I'm glad you think it's working, what I really wanted to avoid was the whole: this chapter is for Buffy, this one is for Giles, this one is for Dawn thing. That would suck. Thanks for the review.

Review of chapter "5" from Tanydwr
Oh, I *really* want to smack Buffy. The way she reacts to people calling her small and she's calling Harry pathetic? I thought she'd worked out that the package doesn't necessarily denote the product? I can't see Harry being 'pathetic' either. If nothing else, he's gotta be at least six inches taller than Buffy, so she can't be that mean! (If you look at wand-lengths, there's a direct proportionality to the wand-user's final height. And I mean *wooden* wands!)

I think the whole lot of them are in for a big surprise when Harry reveals exactly what's happened to him. Yes, Buffy was fifteen when she was Called, but Harry's been manipulated since he was a baby. Buffy had a loving (if sometimes oblivious) family - Harry lost his, gained an abusive one (the Dursleys *were* abusive, even if it wasn't necessarily as violent as some people make them - there's still verbal and mental abuse a-plenty), and his only other family were his friends, who no longer understand him. Not to mention losing the only girl he'd ever loved. Yes, Harry's had a quiet few years, he needed that. And what did you have happen to Harry in his last two years of school? The only Scooby who's been tortured properly is Giles, after all. Buffy only had some mental torture from Angel.

As you may have guessed I hate stories where Harry's made out to be weak and stupid in the light of Buffy and the others' strength, knowledge and magic. I like the fact that Harry has a far better grasp on magic that Giles or Willow, not to mention his shock at their light-hearted reaction to the hellmouth and everything.

Keep up the great work, I can't wait to read more.

I'm glad you liked the chapter. The balance between the Sunnydale cast and Harry is one that often frustrates me in fics. It's always a case of one lot being superior to the other and generally contains a sick kind of one-upmanship about who's suffered more. In setting out the dynamic for their interaction, I wanted to show that neither is better, they are just different, and all of them have preconceptions and prejudices about each other, most of which are wrong. And yet, it isn't in Harry's nature to say 'Actually FYI I too am a tortured soldier of fate who had an impossibly heavy burden heaped on their shoulders at a ridiculously young age, so up yours Blondie!' - as much as it might be gratifying to some people.

Review of chapter "5" from Nozomi
Sorry, but this review is going to be vaguely flamey. I can understand why you have to start out the way you do, but do you HAVE to make Harry so pathetic? And Buffy is being way harsh which, yes, is her way, but still. WHEN is Harry going to stop being such a messed up spaz?! Can he do something impressive, or find a way to fill Buffy and Giles on his past? It's just, well, he's so lame!
Comments from author:
Yes, I DO have to make Harry a bit messed up. It is all part of the Grand Master Plan (TM). No really, it is. I know it's frustrating, but this isn't so much a story about superheroes saving the day, it's a story about what happens the next day and then the day after that. But worry not, the story is barely begun, there is plenty in store which will demonstrate that Harry, for all his failings, is NOT a dweeb.
