Review of chapter "Epilogue" from Grovtech
But you killed Xander! I'm afraid that was my reaction too even as it's 3 in the morning since I couldn't stop reading. Even still I want to know more... sigh.

Review of chapter "Epilogue" from ElDani
I like this story the least out of all in the series although it is technically and plot-wise no less brilliant than your others. I also don't plan to continue reading on, because I've already gotten my own personal conclusion in that Methos has long been dead, Xander is now dead and the remaining two will sooner or later kill each other.
Part of the reason why, is the universe you set this story up in. Anita Blake was never something I particularly liked a lot, so it feels like a waste for Xander's last stand to me.
Well, there's one thing I cannot fault you for that I'm sure many others weren't happy about: Xander's death at the hands of Anita. With Methos' reality having vanished a long time ago, the Four Horsemen weren't complete anymore and we all could see where this would ultimately lead. The final conclusion was unavoidable.
Can Willow ever get over losing her husband and soul-mate of so long? Will Silas or Willow "win" the prize of the Game? Who knows. There is certainly more to come, which is evidenced by your 6th story, but it doesn't matter to me. It wasn't Xander or Willow that made this series so exceptional for me, but the combination of Xander AND Willow. After you put all of them into separate universes I was not so ecstatic anymore and now that I know that there won't be a Xander AND Willow anymore, there's nothing left for me to discover.
In closing, don't take this criticism too serious. No matter what people (like me) say about the unsatisfactorily ending, we all have read the earlier stories in your series and have liked them. Thank you for writing this series. If I hadn't been captivated, I wouldn't have kept reading for so long.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the reviews. I knew going into The Early Dawn that people weren't going to like the ending. It's unfortunate, but the one rule that I didn't want to break in the stories was the whole "There can be only one" rule. To be honest I found it slightly less bad to have Xander die at the hands of a Slayer then at the hands of one of his brothers, or worse have him kill one of them.
It's just as well that you stop where you did, I never managed to finish "Their final adventure" I ended up leaving the story hanging awkwardly after the intro. Though in my opinion the three chapters I did post are my best writing in this series. :P Glad you enjoyed the series, even if the ending wasn't to your taste. If it makes you feel any better, think of it as an homage to Joss Whedon, he always kills the characters you love.

Review of chapter "Peace, Or The End Of War" from Dardrian
If I could leave a negative rating, I would, if only for the utter shock of it. But, then again, that means that the story touched something deep in me and resonated. So no rating.
Comments from author:
A lot of people had that reaction, I tried to foreshadow it in the story, but it's hard to do without giving too much away.

Review of chapter "Epilogue" from Rune
For a story as well written as this I would normally give a 10. BUT YOU KILLED XANDER! If you had his last act reducing the the world to a just animals I might have given a 3. Character deaths are depressing and I read for fun not to be depressed. It would have been different if he had died like Buffy, of old age. But you had Anita betray him, and then she was let live, not a thing that will make readers happy. Well congrats on a well written if dark story.
Comments from author:
I realized about halfway through that story that Xander had to die at the end, both for the story and the series in general. The game has to end somehow, and I found this less depressing than him killing Willow or vice versa.
Sorry you got depressed from reading my ending.

*Sigh* and once again, the stupidity of the vampire-loving heroine gets a lot of innocent people killed. This is Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons 2, 6, and 7 all over again.

Review of chapter "Epilogue" from Gonadius
Just read this for the first time - Immediately after having been tricked into reading the whole Anita Blake series... The horror... The Horror! Ahem... Anyways, definitely liked it, and didn't even mind you killing Xander off at the end - It sort of worked.. Perhaps not for the series, but definitely for the story.
One niggle - I would have liked to see a part dealing with Jean-Claude after the apocalypse. Perhaps as one of those conscienceless masters you mentioned earlier on.
A solid 7/10 boosted to an 8 for almost wiping out the Anita-verse and getting some of the bile I feel towards it out of my system.
Comments from author:
Glad you enjoyed it. The AB series does kind of go down hill doesn't it:) It's a shame because Anita was a fairly interesting character in the beginning.

Review of chapter "Epilogue" from Katricia
Well that was a depressing ending, even if I couldn't really have seen this ending any other way. It seems somewhat fitting that there is a thunderstorm going on outside at the moment, and I'm listening to a rather depressing song from shuffling songs on my iPod. Well, that, and it seems fairly hilarious.
Wonderful series - though I haven't read the final one. Although there were several typos/misspellings in this series, it was rarely noticeable enough that it pulled you out of the story. There was one notable exception to that, though. In one of the early chapters of this story, you used the word "neurocees" instead of what I am guessing was intended to be "neurosis" or some such word. I spent several minutes trying to figure out what neurocees meant because google wasn't coming up with anything before I figured out it was a typo.
You're a talented writer - I doubt many other could have taken the premise you started with and ended up with something half as good.

Review of chapter "Epilogue" from ShyBob
It takes a gifted storyteller to craft a complex character, weave an engrossing tale, and then whack the protagonist at the end. Most authors don't have the willpower to write off something they have so much passion for. This is one of my most favorite Xander-fics in the multiverse, even if you did kill him off. I'm glad you added the epilogue, as it gave a great sense of closure to the piece.

Review of chapter "Epilogue" from Vilkath
I have to say this story was pretty good up to the ending, why is it every story this series is 'okay everything is okay then CRAP death and angst for no reason' Oh so xander wasn't paying 100% attention but he couldn't avoid a beheading so he's dead instantly. Anita same chick who couldn't kill a master vampire who mind raped her into being a sex slave could kill Xander without a second thought?
Over all it's like reading some the worst 'screw harry' from Harry Potter fanfiction. Previously strong godly characters just trip over a crack and die on a thumb tack kind of stupid situations. The author shows a lot of promise in their writing ability and such.. but some how utterly crappy endings. It is like one those hack writers who kill of a loved character in a TV series to get more ratings for a second.
Comments from author:
Heh, people either enjoyed or really really REALLY hated that ending. It always surprises me how many people are willing to insult or yell at someone who spent a significant amount of their free time writing a story. At least most of the really bad reviews were not public.
I won't argue about the justifications of killing off Xander. I had a fair idea going into the story that he was going to die in it, as for exactly how, the characters kind of decided that. Xander was a better fighter than Anita, but had a blindspot for asertive women. Anita isn't a character that isn't overly concerned with and 'honourable' fight, that's what makes her a good executioner in the books. She took the chance she had and ran with it.
As for the pacing of the ending I agree it comes out rushed in a number of my stories. It is an issue I've been trying to work on, with mixed results.
I am glad you liked the previous stories, even if this one wasn't to your taste. I am a bit curious why you thought the four killing themselves at the end of 'the call of the gathering' would make a better ending then them finding a way for all four to survive.
I do apreciate negative feedback, it is useful to improve my writing, though you may want to tone it down a bit. Some of your reviews come off as fairly hostile and rude.

Review of chapter "Waking" from CEEGEE
While I'm enjoying this series I have one question. Are Josh and Sarah boyfriend/girlfriend or siblings? I ask because when Josh first asks Xander for help he refers to her as his girlfriend, yet a paragraph or two later you refer to her as his sister. When Anita and Xander meet should be interesting given their opposing views on vampires, with her having vampire lovers and his opinion that he should kill them all.
Comments from author:
Thanks for pointing that out, I thought I had fixed that typo, no they aren't siblings.

The interesting thing here, is that while there is regret that Xander is dead, there are no tears from me, due to all that has transpired. Thanks for sharing.
