Love this. Serenity is such a nice place for Faith to start over.

I think she deserves that...very, very much.

Review of chapter "Just A 26th Century Girl" from nicowa
Review:
I can see from the reviews posted below you've had a few people hound you about the shortness and the lack of continuation but just allow me to say that even if you never continue this as a series it stands perfectly well on its own. It's not too short nor rushed and despite the fact that you had to move her around so much in such a short word count it flows perfectly well.

I think the comparison between Faith and River and their 'communication' with the ship is apt even if you didn't deliberatly mean to do it, they both have extra senses that the others don't have so they're more in tune with whats around them. And with the love that Mal and Kaylee and even Wash have showered on the ship it's no wonder that it became more sentient that anything else.

Love it. Bravo!
Comments from author:
*whew* I was beginning to wonder there for a while if I'd just totally lost my knack for short form fic. Many thanks for the kind words re: flow. I do think there is a great amount more to be explored here, but just tacking another chapter onto this isn't the way to go.

The more I have thought about Faith and River, the more I see the paralells. I wish there was more from River in canon about just how she experienced her connection with Serenity. Certainly interesting to hear Joss talk about the fact he considers the ship itself to be the tenth character - she really is. Again - thanks so much!! Your review made me smile. ~Ves

Review:
Loved the story, the Firefly characters can be so much fun if you do them right, and I've a feeling you could. So...when are we going to see some more of this?

All the best,
DaveT.

Review of chapter "Just A 26th Century Girl" from (Past Donor)Kiwikatipo
Review:
This would make the perfect prologue for a longer story. And as you have such knowledge of Chinese culture.... A story set in this universe would rock. If you have Faith still twisted, she could take Simon off Kaylee, just because she's jealous everyone loves Kaylee.
Comments from author:
Hmmm....that could be fun. ~Ves

Review:
I tend to click on anything that says "Firefly" without looking at the rest.

This is a decent idea, and don't think I'm attacking you for writing it. Its just that I tend to dislike super short fanfics as a rule. They are often no show, all tell, and don't have enough to cut your teeth on, or even worse, tend to give a mess of disconnected scenes and act like the reader should just fill in the blanks. Sorry about the rant, I just like this idea, and while it does kinda read like more a summery for a fanfic than a fanfic, it is a good idea.

Just glad its not a "montage" fic. }P
Comments from author:
I understand. I was just a little confused since this site is so up front with word counts. I certainly don't want to torture anyone with something that just not their thing.

This is nearly all tell, which is funny as I have actually written pure drabbles that are 90% dialogue banter, but I couldn't quite figure out how to have Faith talk to the ship and the ship talk back. I think that would be the crack!fic version of this. "Serenity flashed a few lights, 'Hey - wash your hands! Your fingers are all sticky from that sandwich. Ew'."

No harm, no foul. Though I do think we are not a great match reader/writer wise...I do love the ultrashort fics. :D ~Ves

Review of chapter "Just A 26th Century Girl" from Gesso
Review:
An intensely satisfying story for only 715 words! I love the parallels between Faith and River's relationship with Serenity, the constant need to touch the walls, railings, floor. Beautiful.

And cameo beat-downs of Badger are always fun :)

If you decide to write more in this 'verse I'd certainly be along for the ride.
Comments from author:
It's actually only 500. The other 200+ are the header and notes. *grins* It's a challenge to squish a lot into very few words, but one I enjoy.

Someone else commented on my substituting Faith in River's role, which was not my intent at all. River is still here, somewhere. I am actually very curious to see how River and Faith would talk about what they feel for Serenity. Certainly River interacts with the ship on a physical level like no one else, but is she feeling something from the ship? The question begs to be answered.

And beating Badger is barely even work. Faith would snap in half the first chance she got for something better. I mean, what kind of challenge is roughing up some mere mortal space pirates? It's an insult to her skills.

Glad to know you'd be interested in more. Not sure I can just expand this one - the pacing is all wrong. But revisiting this idea and starting afresh with more details is something I've considered. Thanks so much! ~Ves

Review:
That was just lovely. Can't coherently give whys, it's just got a marvelous flow and tone to it. Thank you.
Comments from author:
Aw, shucks. I appreciate the comments on flow and tone as they are so vital in something this short. The pacing just sort of set itself and guided Faith's first steps into what could be her new life. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! ~Ves

Review:
Fanfic that reads like a challenge...

So, this is a nice summery you have here. When are you actually going to write it?
Comments from author:
Point taken. However, this was written for a challenge that required 100-500 words and as you can see, I maxed out the word limit. Personally, I enjoy writing short form because each word is so much more important than in a longer piece and you have to be absolutely clear of your intent or the piece flounders.

Sorry it read "like a challenge". It was meant to be a peek at a possible future for Faith and an exploration of her relationship with Serenity itself. I would apologize for it being so short, except that the word count is right next to the link, so you knew it was quite short before you read it.

That being said, I do see that it is a good jumping off point for something more, but I do think it stands well on its own as a glimpse of what might have been. Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback and will certainly consider reworking this into a full fic at some point in the future. ~Ves

Review of chapter "Just A 26th Century Girl" from RevDorothyL
Review:
Nice! It really is satisfying to see Faith get both something that's meant to be hers ('Serenity' itself) and a less defeatist and malicious final gift from the Mayor.
Comments from author:
*nods* That is such a lovely place for an AU for Faith. Why let her take Buffy's life? Yes, it is something she's always been jealous of, but it would be yet another round of defining herself in terms of Buffy. How much more joyful for Faith to be able to start again - somewhere where she isn't the "second" Slayer and just a person in her own right.

As always, you see just what caught my attention about this situation and my hopes for what Faith might have been...Danke. ~Ves

Review of chapter "Just A 26th Century Girl" from Cutiepie
Review:
Wow. That said, I want more. I want to be able to immerse myself in this Firefly world of Faith's, reading for hours if possible (no pressure on you, though). In case I didn't make myself completely clear, I like it. =D
Comments from author:
I was getting that. :D Glad you did!!

I think this little AU merits revisiting. We shall have to see if the Muse obliges! ~Ves
