This was quite touching and brought back emotions from when I first watched The Gift. Well done.

This is amazing. You captured Giles so well, and the numbness surrounding him, the pain, the guilt, and knowing that it was all necessary.

The Major added so much to this story, it was great to see another 'human' council member.

It was so heartbreaking to realize he was right, that no matter how much you may love someone, you can't choose them over the rest of the world.

Ripper dismissing the Major added a lot, especially since this story takes place with him going through Buffy's death, and he knows now he was wrong.

The thoughts that Buffy was 'pink', were very interesting.

And the line "She could take one more beating." Wow.

This wasn't in your face shouting and sobbing, this was the dull ache of grief that never goes away, that having to make hard choices leaves.

This story is wonderfully subtle in it's power and truth. It's going on my recs. Bravo. Keep it up.

I like that it was rooted in canon. It's what could have happened. And Giles flashback memories of the old soldier who taught him were very well integrated into his present events. This story works well on many levels.
