You're right of course: Rowena is a bit full of herself. But, I always 'heard' her like that - she was raised by academically minded monks and (by the time this memoire was written) had been a Lady for a long time.

Nice little vignette. I never noticed it before; only the recent category changes, so that it's at last in the same category as 'Tabula Avatar', brought it to my attention.

Should Nalia have Mask at this time? It seems to be pretty early in the story, probably less than half-way through the Chapter 2 quests, and you can only get Mask from Sister Garlena at Watcher's Keep. They don't seem to have any of the other Watcher's Keep gear and so I doubt if they've been there. The Sword of Backstabbing +3, from Renal Bloodscalp, is the best short sword that they can have in Chapter 2 otherwise; I cheated in TA by having Bodhi use Cutthroat, rather than just have it sitting in her coffin, so that they could take it from her. Even so they didn't pick it up until Chapter 4.

Not that anyone except me is likely to pick up on that point and it's not like it spoiled my enjoyment of the story.

You're right as to how and where the weapons can be obtained, but if you're not playing a mage you can pick up Valygar at any point before embarking on the main quest in order to take on the Sphere. If you take up that task late enough then you have had access to Watcher's Keep.

You can get access to Watcher's keep by about 8th level (or a bit higher) and thus access to the shiny toys in their armoury - even if you're not powerful enough to take on the Keep itself. I usually head that way as early as possible just to pick up Mask, the Belt of Arrow Storage and the packs of infinite bolts/arrows lying around the top level - just leave everyone in the first chamber where the cupboards are and send a very sneaky thief on a quest to improve the group's equipment.
