I love the way that you did some actual research (aka at least read the Wikipedia page) on hyenas. Xander is who he is, and honestly (even if Joss didn't play with it enough) hyena!Xander generally makes the most sense. I mean, he lives his life in the hyena hierarchy anyway, so it shouldn't be too much of an adjustment to get used to living as a hyena physically in addition to his social position. I love the parts of hyena hierarchy and biology you put in: their socialization, the female-dominated pecking order (and how that makes werehyenas enjoy being around radical feminists) and just the clear awareness that hyenas aren't just "wolves from Africa/walking vultures".

I LIKE~! The first Xander is an Anita Blake style were story I've ever been able to find that didn't make him into an instant homosexual! I quite appreciate that. You have my immense approval rating and I hope you continue this story soon.

I have almost no idea what to say about this fic. I like certain elements so far. I like Xander's characterzation , and we aren't really into the Anitaverse canon wise to say anything negative so ... barring the slash-scare in chapter 2, LOL, I think it's on a good track.
Did that sound too condecending? If so then I apoligize. It wasn't my intention.

This is a well written story so far. I haven't read any fanfics with Narcissus in them, but he never seemed to be too much of a villain to me, except for during most of NiC, but then he was being coerced into a lot of his actions there.
I am a bit surprised that Anita didn't take a bigger part in the discussion–it is her house, after all–but otherwise the scene was well done. I laughed at how Xander "apologized" to Tammy. :-)
I'm assuming that Xander was using hyperbole when he said that they were driving almost to Kansas–St. Louis is on the eastern side of Missouri, just across the Mississippi river from Illinois (where Narcissus lives); and Kansas is to the west of Missouri, about 250 miles away. Anita does live out in the sticks, but I don't think she's *that* far away. :-)
