Review of chapter "Review Replies" from maxthehobbit
Review:
The story stopped right in the middle. What about the will and why was the rustic doctor involved. Also why would Dawn and Willow spill the beans about Sunnydale to a complete stranger? I've read other stories you have written and this one just wasn't the same caliber. This one was like a .22 compared to a 155mm howitzer.
Comments from author:
The doc was one of Willow's relatives. (They were both Jewish.) As for the rest... I'll just say, it was one of my early works.

I just got around to reading North Star today and enjoyed it quite a bit. I really like it when an author happens to get your locale just right!
Well, the story was good while it lasted.

Review of chapter "Naked in Needles" from LurkerOOl

My wife and I really enjoyed Northern Exposure when it was on, and watched it religiously. You very much captured the feeling of the NE characters, and the only thing that I would have liked to have seen would have been a vampire or demon in Cicely...that Buffy and the crew could have come up for. So many strange things happened in Cicely that vamps or demons would have been par for the course. Randi's daddy decapitating a vamp or Maurice running around like a chicken with his head cut off would have been right in character. By the way, very good story...if just a bit short.

Reading this well-written story was a nice trip down memory lane. Once upon a time Northern Exposure was my favorite show. It looks like the first season was just released on DVD. Thanks.

As of 6/28, they're showing reruns weeknights at 1 AM Eastern on the Hallmark Channel. ;)

hrmmmmmmm...

It's well written, but the end was so abrupt... a good story but it kinda left me feeling like it was missing something. I think that the end was missing some of the subtle touches that you included earlier and that's what left it feeling kinda flat for me. (The Rosenberg Latke recipe was an awesome touch.)

Still - you are very talented, and thank you for sharing your work with us all.

While the ending did feel a bit rushed, I thought you fleshed out the characters in Cecily nicely, showing where they've ended up after a few years. The interactions were all plausible and in character, and while I'm left wanting to know what happens with Joel and the will, whether he comes back to visit or stays, what he'd think of Willow's Sunnydale life, I can respect your decision to end things where they were. I've enjoyed the foray into a more unusual crossover fandom.

It's a good story. Characterization is pretty much right on.

However, the rushed finish detracts from the score I would give it. I was hoping to see some more interaction between the Wicca and rest of the locals: perhaps something like they're starting to have a series of flu-like illnesses that nothing seems to cure, even with the town doctor, Joel Fleischman and the shaman working on it, until Willow arrives and begins to help (maybe someone like the ex-astronaut-can't remember his name-has accidently stirred up some evil spirit, or something) and adds her white wiccan knowledge, as well as her black magic knowledge.

Enjoyed the story. My only comment on the ending is that you really set something up with it. I think it's a federal crime to end a story with a line like, "I expected the adventure to be more adventurous and not do something with it.

Aside from a few very small details (Maggie finding out about demons, but not asking who they were looking for, Shelly or even Randi also not asking) it was a very good story. Not the type of thing you usually find for fanfics either (the cross-over of these particular characters that is, oh and liking the fact that you just picked up eight years after the Northern finale instead of meshing from the two last seasons together some way) which could be why you've had more hits on this story than your other ones. Something new usually either fails miserable or it's something people couldn't get enough of. Just one more small thing. Okay so actually it's a big thing. IT'S OVER? I want more. A sequel in the works perhaps? What did the Will actually say? Another adventure for Wills and Dawn somehow? If not action filled then perhaps an expansion on romantic entaglements?
Oh um, yeah, I was originally just going to comment to say well done. So, Well Done!

Alright! This just gets better and better. Love the level of detail you include. It makes me feel as if I was really there, really watching what was going on. Maggie was a great first face to see, and I quite liked her skepticism regarding the supernatural, and how she just sort of lets it all run off her back. The plane flights in Alaska are dead on, and not anything I'd like to repeat any time soon. It's nice to see that time has passed in Cecily, and I look forward to seeing what changes have happened since last I tuned into the show. Your Dawn/Willow dynamic is great, and believable, and I like how they're taking this adventure in stride. Eagerly waiting for more.

This has promise, and is an interesting premise. I like your description of the group dynamic, though the discussions of nakedness were a bit of a surprise, as was Willow's reaction to her parents death. Even if they had been estranged, I would have imagined a little grief, though that may appear later- or not, I by no means want to come across as asking for or dictating to, that's not my intent. I like the concept of a traveling Scooby Investigative team, and loved your chapter titles. Very clever. I guessed at who the cousin might be, and I have to say, I think that's neat. I look forward to seeing how Willow interacts with her second cousin, as well as her reaction to Alaska in general. I've never read a crossover for these two universes and am excited to see how it turns out.
