Heh, thanks for the mention. Ironically enough I too did a ficlet based off my comments to Joe, only I spliced it into a series about schools Willow didn't go to - and somehow managed to get Wills to be the GREEN ranger...

The Crystal intended for the story to be make the decision much less of a gray area—unfortunately, Dawn's exhausted state coupled with maybe a little resentment because Willow never came back led to it being altered. The reason I see it as personal gain is that it wouldn't be using the Power to protect the planet; Willow's friends died, but the planet and humanity were still safe, and everyone who supposedly died in the fight knew what they were getting into, ostensibly.
