Your portrayal of Illyria doesn't work for me, at least not completely.
She was a god, now an echo of her former glory, but she would still have the attitude and mannerisms. Perhaps her exposure to Fred's memories and interactions with humans and Spike, has changed her a little.
I don't see Illyria boasting or making threats, without carrying them out if someone disobeyed her command.
It will be interesting to see how Illyria and the others get past the Jaffa, who are guarding the gate. I have several ideas. Illyria could manipulate time and open portals. Her power is increasing and the gate makes a ready made portal.
How does The Key fit in to your story?

MaxGSandeman, thanks for the review. Based upon your comments and others, I slightly revised the chapter. Let me know what you think of the changes. I made only the slightest of changes to Illyria, but they are important.

Btw, I do think she has been humanized by her contact with Buffy and the others. In AtS, she had just been "born" and still there was change by the end of the show. Now more time has passed. She has changed. Not hugely, but she has changed.

As to Illyria's powers, the one she has regained is the Green Song. She had lost that in AtS after Wolfram & Hart took her power from her. Others may return as the shell she is in slowly adapts to Illyria's essence. You'll find out in a couple of chapters how she gets past the Jaffa.

The Key doesn't fit into my story at all. Illyria puts up with Dawn more than most because she is both Buffy's sister, and an artifact predating Illyria herself. But Illyria can't use that power. Not yet anyway. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Interesting as regards Buffy becoming a goddess. Now its clear why the PTB are peeing their pants. One of Buffys first smackdowns would be on their incompetant rearends. Just my two cents worth but I suggest when the time comes Buffy filters the power out equally among herself, Willow and Illyria. A triangle is one of the strongest forms there are; and that wayyou do not have one with too much power. Also allows coverage of more then one area at a time.

As far as your triangle idea, maybe. I can't say too much without giving away the plot, but I'm not sure that Willow would welcome something of that nature. Also, I am not sure Illyria should have it, if you know what I mean. But there will be justice at the end.

This is a great little chapter that does an excellent job of setting the scene for later chapters. I like the basic premise of overly successful slayers putting Riley out of a job and then having him be snapped up by the Stargate programme. I thought the restraint you showed by only hinting at the true relationship between Buffy and the rest of the Slayers. This prologue definitely wets the appetite for the rest of the story.

I'm afraid this is just a place holder with the promise of more to come eventually. I like to give long and detailed reviews and I can't afford the kind of time this story truly deserves at the moment. I just wanted to let you know I think this story is stupendously good. I know it's a minority opinion but I actually prefer it to Life Ending, Life Beginning, not that that isn't a great story too. I was really glad to see you've started updating it again. Will you be updating any more of your WIPs in the near future?

Poor Buffy. I'm pretty sure that she doesn't want to be a god. That would severely hamper her attempt to return to heaven. I guess the saying is true that some people have greatness thrust upon them. I suppose her getting Willow to promise to cast a spell for her has something to do with this godhood thing though.

Thanks for the review, dreameralways. You're right. Buffy isn't happy about it. But some things come without choices or with choices that aren't really because of the consequences behind them.

I loved the Eve comment about wanting Buffy to become a God sooner. Very inventive and well thought out. Can't wait to see some Buffy/Graham and Dawn/Riley interaction.

Illyria is being quite nice the the folks at the SGC isn't she? She must really want to be on Buffy's good side :) And she has picked up a new high priest! Dawn should have demanded a message be sent to the training planet immediately, time is awasting while they make with the explanations. At least then the SGC would know something is wrong when they encounter the fortifications at the gate.
One thing I am unclear on is your timeframe for Buffy's Godhood. You say that it will happen in the blink of an eye- which suggests it could happen at any time then you say she will rule the Planet in 20 -100 years - is that before or after she becomes a god?
I hope she is able to create portals like Illyria soon, maybe she could create a portal back to Earth for the wounded and for reinforcements. Or she could just go kill those 400 Jaffa by herself. Whatever works.
I have this funny image of Buffy and her Slayer bodyguards busting into the UN and declaring herself Ruler of Earth. Just to put a stop to all the bickering between countries. We could do worse for a benevolent dictator than Buffy.

What Illyria said, was that it would happen in the blink of an eye. Ilyria is literally tens of millions of years old. 20-100 years is a blink of an eye to her. That 100 years is a normal human life time would not even register with her.

There are going to be all kinds of hell breaking loose soon. Expect the PTB to get involved, as well as all kinds of craziness where Buffy's at. And soon. 8)

Buffy won't be doing that. If she does become an old one, she won't have to. Humanity could no more stand against her than it could have against Jasmine. If she wanted to go that route. Maybe she'll just demand all of the world's best shoes be tithed to her. 8)

Holy smoke, so excited to see an update!! And what an update it was! Loving the connection between Buffy and the baby slayers, and especially Autumn. Ilyria is awesume, and little Eve is adorable.

Out of curiousity, can we expect an update on Honor's Slayer soon? Please, please, please???
