Cool. It was wondering if it would have been worse for Wes if someone else he cares for had been the one to die and he knew that he caused their death, until I realized that there really isn't anyone else that he really cares for. I especially liked the tie to Romeo and Juliet.

Oh, and I was also wondering what would have happened if had Illyria returned. How would she have reacted?
Comments from author:
Exactly. At this point the only human members of the Fang Gang were Wesley and Gunn, and Wesley had already tried to kill Gunn himself.

I'd guess that Ned would either be missing one spine, or he would end up as Illyria's pet once he showed her that he could bring plants back from the dead. The way I interpreted Ned's gift, though, that wouldn't happen; essentially, to me, he has a very fundamental connection with death. Even Illyria, who survived countless millennia of complex mystical and demonic attacks, can be killed by something so basic. (It reminds me a lot of the Reapers from Dead Like Me, somewhat unsurprisingly, and there's a lot of interesting crossover potential with that as well.)

Yay! The first Pushing Daisies cross! (That I've seen). It's my favorite new show of the season, and really, it's just begging to be crossed with BtVS. I've had a ficlet rolling around my head for a few days, but I haven't got around to writing it - I'm glad someone did!

I enjoyed this very much. Thanks for sharing.

Nice one - though I'm surprised that it didn't occur to anyone to have a hamster or something handy to die in her place. Or an unwanted lawyer, of course.
Comments from author:
It seems like only people die for people, so far. A squirrel died for Digby, and I think it was implied that fruit somewhere else died for Ned's pie supplies.

My idea here was that Wesley essentially acted on his own. He hoped that there would be enough people buzzing around outside the office that the proximity effect might take one of them, but crossing with the Angelverse means introducing some of the more unpleasant elements of balance and destiny.
