Review of chapter "Part V" from DianeCastle
Review:
I hadn't ever seen your stories on the site, but after you dropped me a review, I looked you up. This is great. It really sounded like Joe Mannix, and it had enough Mannix references to really *feel* like Mannix. I'm giving you a recommendation for this one.
Comments from author:
Thank you mightily! I have more stories (quite a few more) in other places; if the link below is stripped out by the editor, check my profile for the address. Likewise, other stories listed here. And I’m old enough to have enjoyed “Mannix” myself, back in the day (though his guest appearance on “Diagnosis: Murder” would have been what brought it back to me).

Might I also recommend “Seeking the Woman”?

Thank you again.

Review:
Whoa!!! A Mannix-Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover!!

I was still a kid at the time, but I remember watching the show sometimes, and from what I remember, you captured the character perfectly. More significantly, you captured the attitudes which Joe would have had, given the times he grew up in.

Very well done.
Comments from author:
Looking back at the story, I think I made Joe quite a bit more articulate (at least in his internal musings) than we saw in the TV character. Some of that was influenced by my memory of Ross Macdonald’s depiction of Lew Archer, another California PI (albeit of a different era), and I figured I could show Joe as having more inner depth than he was willing to demonstrate. As long as the story works, I’m happy.

Thank you for your approval.

Comments from author:
I never became familiar enough with the show or character to do one devoted entirely to him. (I had to do massive online research just to manage THIS one.) I’m a die-hard “Buffy” fan, but seldom care enough about any other fandom to do the work necessary for effective fanfic.

All the same, I’m happy to have pleased you with this entry. And I apologize for taking so long to reply.

Excellent. ;) This may well be the only Mannix/Buffy crossover I've ever even heard of, much less seen. And very well done at that.

IIRC, since you have two x-over stories here, TtH does have a section for BtVS non-crossover stories and you meet the current posting requirements. You might consider posting at least the other two Shelia centered stories that tie in with this one here as well. Just a thought.
Comments from author:
The story took a long time to come into focus; I knew years ago that Joe Mannix had been involved with a young Joyce, but not what else would descend from that fact. Took a long time for me to find my way to seeing it, and I kind of like the way that turned out.

As for posting the other two Sheila-related stories, those would be a good choice. I’ll get on that.

I remember watching this detective as a kid way back when and I hadn't thought of him or his show for years until that crossover Diagnosis Murder episode aired.

Well written, true to character, but with plenty left unexplained so that a sequel must be written.

Good Job!
I've added it to my favorite stories.

I’m afraid that a sequel (if any) probably won’t involve Joe, but I was happy to do this one. I’m very glad you found it effective.
