Review of chapter "For Those Who Wait" from Callista
I didn't think it was possible to write Michael in any kind of slash relationship, at least not believably. Not that I think being Christian and gay are incompatible, but Michael is happily married, loves Charity immensely, and he's a father of seven, and I just couldn't see it.

But you pulled it off. I loved this fic, I love that the characters are so true to the books, and I just loved it. I was sorry to see Charity die, but the story is just great. Thank you for that!

I hope you'll add some new chapters one day, but even if you don't, this story is fantastic.

Thank you so much for your review! When I was originally presented with the request to slash Michael for the Yuletide exchange, I had the same trouble imagining it, until I found a point where Charity could have been removed organically from the picture (much as I hated to do so; because she's an awesome character). And then the rest kind of fell into place.

The recent trend in the books has made it difficult for me to imagine continuing to parallel canon with this series, so I've been sort of putting off continuing it until I figure out how to get a handle on *that*, too.

Review of chapter "Five Crosses Michael Carpenter Never Bore" from ScarlettJediKnight
Just read this and I loved it, excellent work. Michael and Harry relationship has always been a favourite of mine in the books and whilst its not something that would happen in them this was done in such a realistic way as to make it believable. So thank you so much for this wonderful AU.

Review of chapter "What Matters Most" from DennSedai
*sad, wistful sigh* Of all the possible pairings, that's not one I would ever have thought of. Done just oh so well.

More please, maybe at some point in the future?
Comments from author:
Thank you for reviewing! I'd never have thought of the pairing either if not for the original Yuletide request, but I'm strangely fond of it now.

I'm on a reread through the series right now; sometime soon, I'd like to tackle a reaction to Small Favor in the Five Crosses 'verse.

*smirk* a very interesting twist on the stories...and it's funny, since I JUST finished White Night tonight lol have you decided whether or not you're going to include something from Small Favor yet? And, saddened though I am about Charity, I think Molly might have ended up a little better, wizard-wise, because of it. Keep up the excellent work.

I normally rate your stories very high; you write very well, with excellent grammar, entertaining style, and a clean, typo-free product. I can also typically take egregiously AU characterizations...but I can't accept this one. Having ANY kind of slash with MICHAEL of all people is so completely outside of what makes him "Michael", my mind utterly rejects it. Considering his name, surely chosen with purpose by Butcher, means "Who is like God", with the last name Carpenter (the Messiah's occupation before His ministry), one couldn't miss the Christian overtones, even if Butcher omitted them in Michael's inception. That being said, having Michael in even mild slash is so completely anathema to the Christian lifestyle he represents it destroys suspension of disbelief completely.

Don't get me wrong; this isn't any kind of blast against someone being or leaning towards homosexual tendencies. Rather, it's too "AU" a change with what the character represents at his most basic portrayal, resulting in a conflict of philosophy and belief too great to accept that THAT character in particular would lean that way...well, ever., while I'd never expect it, it also wouldn't shock me; he's open minded.

But Michael? Consider my mind blown.
Comments from author:
I wrote this for a fic-exchange request; the "Michael slash" part was non-negotiable, sorry.

Aside from that-- well, I did consider the issue when I started writing. I'm Christian myself, and it's a thorny issue. But there is support in-canon for the Knights not being especially dogmatic (he's friends with Harry for one, despite the "no witches" clauses in the Bible, and Sanya-- another knight-- is an atheist).

But what it all boiled down to for me was-- I looked up the part in the Bible where it says David loved Jonathan like his own soul. Which, not slash, I know; but given the soul gaze thing, and the rest of the setup of the Knights? Love is love, and I didn't think it would be such a stretch for Michael, after all. I tried to portray the deep connection they already have as friends, first and foremost, just deeper. We may have to agree to disagree on that one.
