Heh, the artifact Dawn's on her way to examine sounds worthwhile, as well as the task Jack sketched out - although it seems he got too caught up in amazement at Dawn's future to ask about her key self ;)

What a lovely story! I hadn't read this one up until now because I don't follow Torchwood (I think I've seen three or four episodes) but the way you wrote this made it possible for me to understand most of it (aside from the characters names). Great job!
Hi. Someone left a rec for this fic on my LJ, when I was asking for crossover stories involving Captain Jack. I liked the use of the ghostly stuffed rabbit (even if Anya would not approve). I liked Dawn and Jack snarking on each other's fashion sense, despite being in a haunted house which was trying to kill them. I also enjoyed how you captured Jack's voice. Even though it's probably apparent by this point that the final chapter was my favorite--since it would have worked as a cool stand-alone ghost story, even without the fan-fictional element, I liked the whole thing, including the explanation for why Buffy could remember The Year that Never Was and Dawn being the Key to Jack's lost memories (wouldn't mind a sequel about that ;p ). Also, meta jokes about Tinkerbell!Doctor never get old.

This is absolutely awesome! I really hope you continue this, because it is absolutely worth continuing. I had read the first story before (where Buffy ran away with the Doctor) but never seen the rest of it. Anything better than Dawn (who has recently become one of my favourite fic characters) with Captain Jack in Torchwood? I can't even think of it. Plus, the story was interesting, the whole bit with the lost time and interesting ghost story thing was really good, and I just really love the idea of Dawn at Torchwood. Congratulations!
