Review of chapter "We Are Truly Dead" from Ltlconf
Agree it was out of character for Faith, sorta. I would imagine nearly dying...twice, and in as many days, would knock you a bit out of character. In fact Faith seemed to have the sense others (including Buffy: diving back into the winery when everyone is shell=shocked IS stupid. Take it from a combat vet) lacked after that. Every call she made was right even when the outcame (the bomb) wasn't what she wanted. Wondering if aone quick scout was enough was right, letting the SITs burn off steam after getting their ass kicked was right, trying to get Buffy to slow down was right, trying to get Buffy to come back was right, not letting Spike challenge her authority once she had it from Buffy (like 'em or not, he WAS an ass at that moment: Faith had nothing to do with. He blamed Faith first just like EVERYONE always did), and trying to hit the enemies logistics was right (how in the HELL did the First see that coming?). ALL were good calls. If Buffy can screw up, then Faith can get it right. Besides, EVERYONE of the Scoobs but Xander and Dawn (including Buffy) had killed or murdered MULTIPLE someones by that point. Hell, Willow was one up on the First: she didn't try to take over, she tried to fry everything! Hell, for all the onus on Faith, she was a light weight compared to Anya and Willow (and Buffy had a bc in the dozens)....
The thing that seemed the most outa character for Faith was her speech pattern: she went from Bostonian Southie (while with Angel) to 'West Coast Gangsta' on the drive with Willow! THAT was jarring!

That's just... devastating.
Throwing Buffy out of the house was the stupidest thing the scoobies ever did. I thought it was brutally bad writing. The only person who was sensible in that whole thing was Faith. Faith was the one person who knew, even as it was happening, that she couldn't save them without Buffy. Without the Spike they hated so much (especially Xander, Wood and Giles), all would have been lost...
Comments from author:
I can say, with certainty, when I saw that episode on TV as it premiered, I was stunned. I couldn't believe that they had done that. After all the things the Scoobies had been through together, never do you see them go 'Oh, we wash our hands of you - get out!'. It always seemed really out of character for everyone, but I guess that entire season was kind of like that. I agree that there would have been many more casualities if Spike hadn't been there or Buffy never got the scythe. The only person who shone that entire messed-up season was Faith. Even then, it was in a wise, patient way that was out of character from what you had just seen on Angel!
