Review of chapter "Chapter One" from (Current Donor)Shieldage
'and he people knew how to deal with it.' is the only error I saw

Good footnotes. Although I might have liked to see one where "if you do not have a purse at the time of your beating, you will be given one. Then it will be immediately stolen, but you will be left with a receipt..."

The Doctor does get around :)

Ah, brilliant! Your Seven is downright creepy, I really like him. (Although I do have to point out that Death of the Discworld has never quite figured out how the little horse-shaped pieces move.) Nonetheless, delightful little vignette, you've got a good hold on the Discworld voice (excellent excurses). I would love to hear about how the Doctor tried to depose Vetinari (but apparently decided it was better to leave him be in the end). Or, oh no... mental image of Ace and Nobby blowing something up together...

See, now you've got me thinking. =) Truest sign of a great fic.

You caught Terry Pratchett's style of writing very nicely indeed and I hope you will get inspired to write more Discworld crossovers.

You have the style letter-perfect, up to and including the footnotes, and the Doctor fits in very nicely. A good vignette.
Comments from author:
Thanks. I find that DW is so flexible it fits almost anywhere...if you do it right.

Some very in-depth comments there about 7 as well... you've obviously read quite a few of the New Adventures as well :)

Excellent characterisation... and the Doctor visiting other Disc characters could be rather interesting :)
Comments from author:
The NAs and Big Finish are my eras of Doctor Who, and Seven is my Doctor.(With Tom and Pat tied for a very close second.) Other Discworld crosses...I'm seeing Rincewind running around like a maniac and every where he goes the Doctor's already there using him for...something...or Granny Weatherwax putting the Oncoming Storm in his place.

Very nice. The footnotes were a nice touch.

You don't see Seven in too many fics, and I can see him and Vetinari doing exactly that.

Especially the bit at the end.
Comments from author:
I know. Seven gets no love, which is a shame. The mischivious little man is the scariest of them all. All my DW stories are 7th Doctor, except one with Two. Glad you like the story.

What a wonderful little story!

I almost didn't read this story because I've never read Terry Pratchett's Discworld, but I'm very glad I did, and because of it I plan on heading to my local Library and see about getting one of the many Discworld books to start.

*Enabling points for you*
Comments from author:
Glad I've inspired you to try Discworld. Some books are better than others (after all there's a whole lot of them) but on the whole its a great series.

This story has now inspired two people to check the series out. I should get royalties ;)

You've got to respect any author who can manage appropriate Discworld footnotes. And make me giggle. At the same time.

Though to be honest, I think the Doctor would have more sense than to try to topple a dictatorship without knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that the result would actually be better for the people involved. And given that getting rid of the Vetinari would clearly result in far *more* chaos, death, and general stupidity than exists with him around, I would think the Doctor would leave well enough alone.

Unless he didn't really mean it when he "tried" to get rid of him. He's sneaky that way, after all.
Comments from author:
I agree that getting rid of Vetinari would make things worse but that's not immediately apparent. The Doctor topples dictators all the time and never sticks around to see what happens after.

Glad you enjoyed it. There's something very satisfying about making the damn footnotes work.
