Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Wolflady
You mentioned that the first three books were fine but the story is being dragged out? I agree with you. Why not make third story AU from whatever point you want? Frankly, books 4-? have gone too far into left field.
Comments from author:
Thanks, I actually gave away the books after number three. I mean there were some good bits in the later books but it was turning into a sword and sorcery story with better plumbing!

I did think of basing as story on bits of the later books and some official stuff I found on the web about the fandom.

However I'm working on new projects no and the 'Change' is a bit in the past now.

Thanks for reading,

Review of chapter "Chapter Twenty-Three." from maxthehobbit
I've read over fifty of your stories and they are all excellent, but this one was more outstanding than all the others. Miss 'P' is one of the best written original characters I've ever read. It seemed to me that Buffy and Faith had a bit of a role reversal, Faith was always the loner and Buffy was more of a team player. Miss P changed all that by joining up with the bearkillers and Faith learned how to not only be a team player, but how to be a leader. Faith also had two excellent horses. The pink plume on her helmet was an oddity, in the show she always just seemed to wear very dark clothes, her wearing pink just cracked me up.
This story also had more action in it than any of your other stories, I like it like that. The last part of the story reminded me a little of when Buffy was thrown out of her own house, in that Faith took over for the most part, But Faith was right in doing so. I liked this so much that I'm recommending it. It's not the top of the list, but only 'Stingers' and '101st' are better, by a slight margin.
Thanks for sharing this outstanding story.
Comments from author:

Yes the roll reversal thging sort of developed as the story progressed...I just ran with it.

In cannon we don't know how Faith would have turned out because her watcher was killed before she got to SunnyD.From what we get from BtVS, Faith liked her Watcher. Faith is also loyal to those who are loyal to don't cross her.

The pink plume? In the early series 3 episodes one of Faiths fav colour choises was pink and black!

Oh wow! like dream i have to say, ignore the previous review, you have just showed me what a emberverse story is like, blood, guts, glory!, its the tale of heroes! legends! Of fighting against all odds for your family, and i have to say in this story you pulled off extremly well.

Like most reviewers i really hope you write a sequel to this, or if not maybe some short stories about the next generation?

P.S: i cant help but wonder what the meeting bewteen Lady Faith and Lady Death will be like, the CUT better be afraid XD!!
Comments from author:
I have to say that I think this is the better of the two stories, although I like both for different reasons and hey! I wrote them!

Also I wanted to show how Faith could have been if she'd had the right influences in her life, which in this story she does.

As I say the third story is unlikely to happen as I've sort of grown bored with the 'Change' books. The first three were fine but now i think the story is being dragged out and I've lost interest in them.

LOL--Okay, nevermind what I said in the other review, apparently you HAVE heard of this series!

Thank-you, hope you enjoy.

Now watch my head swell! The other story in this short series actually got a positive review of S M Stirling himself!!!

Unfortunately it was sent as a private message so doesn't show up in the reviews but I did post it as an anti-twit on the forums.

Review of chapter "Chapter Twenty-Three." from Oxnate
Great story. I love the first trilogy of the Emberverse! The latest ones have been getting ... well weird. But, I'm still going to read them all. Every time a new novel come out I just have to go back and read the whole series over again. (this is starting to take a long time.)

Thanks for writing this. I hope more people will write some crossovers with this series.
Comments from author:
Thank-you. Of the two Emberverse stories I've written this is my favourite.

I think the thing that puts people off writing stories in the emberverse is the weird science. I tend to try and ignore it and not try to explain it, it is what it is the characters have to try to live with it.

I did think of writing a third story but I realised I'd just end up going over the same old ground. However there's still a chance it might happen. But as I'm sure I've said somewhere, 'Don't hold ya breath!'

Like you I think the later books are a little odd but I still keep reading 'em.

Thank-you for your review, most kind.

PS; Thanks for the Rec too.

Finally finished this series, and aside from some very jarring bits at the end, I really enjoyed it. I'm sorry the setup for the a third story won't be used after all, it seems.
Anyway, you kept me up much too late reading again, so I'm off for a nap. Thanks very much for writing!
Comments from author:
Thank-you for your review and yes get some sleep.

I'm sorry but I don't think I'm ever really going to finish the third story for this series. At one point I did think I had something of a plot but I got distracted by other stuff.

Anyway glad you enjoyed what I managed to write.

Review of chapter "Chapter Twenty-Three." from Kovac
I loved it even if it's a bit heavy on the Faith-has-big-childhood-trauma issues but it's an amazing read. Penelope Frost makes a fantastic, caring watcher, a very well fleshed out character and so are the OC. Kudos. Faith's journey to leadership rocks!

My one problem with that story is that I didn't like much the way you handled the Buffy/Faith reunion.(Sorry)

My sensitive little democratic heart doesn't understand the arrogant, I'm a big bully/ know it all 'Lady Faith' suddenly becomes as soon as she meets the Sunnydale group. It's pretty odd (Why?) and it spoiled a bit my fun. I don't think it was necessary to put Buffy down even if I'm no great fan of her to make Faith look good. The way Faith orders them to change location in the end as if she knows better grates my nerves. May be she's right but there's no need to act so superior and contemptuous.

That and (nitpicks but it bothers me) the fact that Giles tells her she must fight the good fight. Really? Why would he ask her this when dear old Buffy didn't or barely? To control Faith? As if he could! Sorry but...Weird. Giles' senile?

So, Buffy's daughter would rather go with complete strangers than stay with caring people she's known all her life? Even if she's friend with Faith's daughter, doesn't seem likely to me... And what sort of a mother takes her seven years old daughter on a dangerous trip in this mad world anyway? Faith seems overconfident she can handle any situation and it's never a good thing for a leader. She almost lost her daughter. What if Caleb had found her first?

Faith's right on two points. a)They were too confident nothing bad would happen that Buffy couldn't handle but Faith's pretty harsh nonetheless...Hey, they lasted ten years, not so bad... and b) Cordelia would make such a terrific -and terrifying!-'Snake Charming' sort of a leader which is always great fun to read.

These critics don't change the fact the Change Serie is one of the best I ever read. Too bad IMHO the end was rushed, but that's it.

Cheers, Kovac
Comments from author:
Ok, I recently re-read this story and lets put it this way. if I was writing it today I wouldn't have been quite so 'mean' to Buffy. In my defense she did die bravely at the end helping to save her settlement and beating the big bad.

Faith; remember that by the time she meets Buffy she's had ten years of being 'Lady Faith' in what is basically a feudal society, she's fought a major war and has probably been galloping about chasing 'Eaters' and the like for ages. So when she meets Buffy's crowd I think she's going to feel 'superior'.

Yes Buffy's daughter going off with Faith and 'Little Penny', was a bit contrived, again I probably wouldn't write it that way today.

Giles acting out trying to control Faith, well again I don't think I'd have written it quite that way now.

Cordy as Lady Cordy...YES! Queen C rules ok!

Penny Frost; I rather liked her and I took quite some time working out who she was. No one seemed to notice (or say) but I actually made her the niece of Colonel John Frost (7th Parachute Battalion)who held the Bridge at Arnhem for nine days against a German SS Panzer division. I made the allusion to Miss P hearing a hunting horn as she died because Frost used a hunting horn to rally his troops on landing.

Yes, maybe the ending was a bit rushed, I do know that the fic went on a lot longer than I'd originally intended. I can't remember what I had in mind at the time.

As it stands it is still one of my favourite fics and constructive comment like yours only helps, you live, learn and try not to make the same mistakes again.

Thank-you for your considered comment its always helpful.

I really enjoyed this story. Nice weaving of both universes together and showing how Faith and Miss P survived the Change. I also enjoyed seeing how you aged Faith into a responsible adult as 'Lady Faith' in the later chapters.

Are you ever going to write another story in this 'verse like you'd originally planned? If not it'll be a real shame, I would have liked to have seen Faith take part in the war against CUT.
Comments from author:
Thank-you. I now have a plot for the last story in the trilogy which will bring the saga full circle. Now I've just got to find the time to write it!

Okay.... I don't think you meant the enduring image of this story to be of Faith in all her armor with a pink plume on her helm - but their you go !

A whole piece was a really good read once again. Well done.
Comments from author:
I just liked the idea of 'hard girl' Faith liking pink!

Dang! My family and I went on a Thanksgiving cruise to Mexico last week so this is the first chance I've had to finish this story and make comments. While I can see why you did it, I was sorry to see Buffy killed. I always liked the episodes when the Chosen Two were working together as friends and helpers. They just had a connection that I thought was neat until Faith went over to the Dark Side.

Wonderful job with this story, both with the marvelous characterizations, the songs chosen, and with the way you modifyed Sterling's universe and crossed it with BtVS. I have to agree that Cordy would probably have been a better leader than the Buffy/Willow/Giles troika. Without the correct training, leadership is hard and Buffy, both in this story and on the show, never got the right training. As a combat leader, she sucked. Anyway, I look forward to the final *?* story in the series and also look forward to many more of your terrific stories. Thanks for the entertainment.
Comments from author:
OH MY! All the nice things people have said it could fair turn a young(old actually but who's counting?) author's head!

You know I always thought it would have made a better if Buffy/Faith had been if not best buds then comrades in arms; after a bit of initial friction of course...but hey Joss had his ideas we have ours.

I'm continually amazed at the positive feed back I've got from theses two fics considering they're not particularly well known books.

Anyway, thanks for the review and I hope you enjoyed Mexico.

Thank you so much for writing this story, I always love what you put out. I was especially happy to be introduced to a new series. I'm just waiting for it to return to my local library. Loved Miss. P and your writing of Faith was as terrific as always. I was kind of disappointed with the Buffy section until I figured out there was a first book. Then, I enjoyed the symmetry. Wonderful to read and congratulations on finishing. I look forward to the next installment.

I've read both stories in this series you've written and have a few things I think deserve mention:

-The way the "happy ending" in the first story turned out was well done. It showed just what happened to people who act and those that just react.
-In the TV series I always got the impression that Buffy was a team player and Faith was someone who mainly relied on herself. An interesting twist to see those roles reversed and also how they got to that point.
-I really appreciate the regularity of the updates.

I thought I had more but it would just turn into "this totally roxor!11!!!" :)
(Which it totally does)

I eagerly await the next story. I know it's set to focus on England but I'm also holding out for some bits that include Penny and Joan.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the review.

I think I've had enough good reaction from this story to give Penny and Joan there own story at some furure date, probably staring a Faith who is by now well into her 30's early 40's. That should be fun in and of itself.

I've had a think about the next story and it'll mainly be about two Potentials from very differant backgrounds and the measures taken by the Council to survive. As time passes things will spring to mind and we'll see how it goes.

Thankls again,

Buffy put to much blame on herself. I could see that Willow and Giles were the real power, and that they used Buffy. I'm not absolving Buffy fully of their situation. Giles tried the same with Faith, she put him in his place. Nicely done.
Joan picked up on it, hence her being eager to leave people she'd known for ten years and live with Penny and Faith, who she's known for only a week.
It's sad that Faith and Buffy's last words were in anger and defeat respectively. At least Buffy died doing what she did best, Joan should be proud her.

The Order of Dagon were playing around with the Key and unleashed an aspect of it that altered some of the underlying physical laws. Fortunately, the effect didn't spread to far. Hopefully, the fallout doesn't last forever.
That's my theory as to what caused the Effect.

I wonder if some smart Gou'ald might pickup the message from the ISS and end up crash landing, with Faith hacking away at any survivor.
Comments from author:
Thank-you for your review.

Now your last comment was very interesting (to be honest I'd forgotten about the ISS) yes a Gou'ald wandering around with out any tech and taking over peoples minds! Hmmm will think on that one.

Really enjoying these stories and looking forward to the conclusion.

Sorry to see Buffy die but she never impressed me as having the character outlast true hardship. Buffy always seem to fight out of anger not conviction.
