Review of chapter "Epilogue." from WitchyGrrl
Review:
I'm...actually kind of speechless over how BRILLIANT this crossover is: the idea of Jack being THE IMMORTAL is such a cracktastic premise, but you give the idea heart and angst and I LOVED EVERY LITTLE BIT OF IT. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how your Jack is SO MUCH like the Doctor: beautifully alien while managing to be heartbreakingly human all at once.
ABSOLUTELY going in my recs!!!
Comments from author:
*grins like a loon* Thank you SO MUCH for your comment! It's funny, because when I first came across the idea, I thought 'Ooooh, that sounds brilliant (but crack-tastic), someone should write that!' And then the more I thought about it, the more potential and depth I could see, and slowly I realised that I would have to write it myself... Because Jack *is* an alien. Not just because of the immortality, but because of when he's from and the different outlook he has. It was fascinating (and irresistible) to play with and explore. Plus, you know, ALLLLL the parallels. I swear, it feels like it was done on purpose...

I am also incredibly grateful for another reason - you see, I have *one* chapter left, except I've been stuck for months and months and months, and suddenly, after reading your comment, inspiration struck me, and I have actually had IDEAS, and I am happy. So thank you lots and lots.

Wonderful story. I love how you've fitted these two canons together like a jigsaw puzzle. I'm no expert, but I've watched all four of these shows (Buffy, Angel, Torchwood, and Dr. Who) from front to back at least twice (well, DW through season 5) and I didn't notice any contradictions. Great job!
Comments from author:
Thank you again! And the jigsaw thing is what comes of spending *far* too much time working things out detail by detail... (Although the fact that the Buffy verse is a closed canon helped immensely. And I'm currently waiting to see how Miracle Day pans out, just in case there's anything I need for the final chapters. The devil is in the details!) Anyway, really pleased you enjoyed my stories, they truly were a labour of love.

This was absolutely brilliant. One of the best portrayals of Torchwood!Jack I've ever come across. And you wove the two 'verses and their canon together so seamlessly. Fabulous.
Comments from author:
*blushes* Thank you so much! I love Jack to tiny pieces, and writing this story was truly a labour of love, because I got to explore so many facets. Especially since giving him a whole other identity actually helped make sense of a lot of things - it never ceased to amaze me how well the canons slotted together. Thank you again! :)

Was hoping for a little AU towards the ending, but understanding why not.
Comments from author:
Oh, going AU is a constant temptation, but staying within the parameters of canon is a nice challenge, and I liked taking Jack up to the beginning of TW S1 and that quiet despair which he carried around then.

Review:
Nicely complex with the character moments and spots of plot. Wasn't expecting Jack to say what he did to Buffy, nor was I expecting that he had actually "retconned" the man to infanthood.
Comments from author:
Yeah, I'm rather fond of character stuff - plot is usually just there to get the characters where I want them. Esp with a cast like this, where you just need to give them one push and they do the rest of the work. As for Jack coming clean, then I think he is, in many ways, like a non-Newtonian fluid - that is, if you apply blunt force he'll harden up, but if you go the softly-softly route, not pressurizing him, he'll explain much more easily. (Ianto understood this perfectly, and it's one of the reasons Jack trusted him with so many secrets. Gwen, bless her, tends to go for the blunt method, and thus very often doesn't get very far.) Here Jack was partly just wanting to share his secret with *someone*, plus Buffy had already accepted that he wouldn't tell her, so it wasn't a bone of contention anymore. As for the scale of the retcon, then it was partly inspired by Margaret Slitheen (Boom Town DW 1.11), plus it combined revenge with a simple way of getting rid of him.

Good resolve to a plot point. I like all of the little things that I had not specifically comments upon before... the stuff with Andrew and Jack managing his two lives.
Comments from author:
Thank you. :) And really it was very, very difficult to work out how it all fitted together from the other side. Things like Andrew's behaviour, f.ex (which is why I built that up earlier on), and all the shenanigans with the head... Jack's double life came in handy there, but it was a tricky balancing act.

I like how you are pacing this as a missing set of adventures that fits in with the established.
Comments from author:
I've always been a canon whore, and it was a wonderful challenge to try to fit the Whoniverse into the Buffyverse, and really play on how that would work.

Review:
I like the supposition in Jack's mind that "The Immortal" sounds like a time lord name and perhaps it could be used to attract the Doctor.
Comments from author:
I must admit that I once read a fic where 'The Immortal' *was* a Time Lord, so I didn't come up with it entirely on my own, but I loved the idea and the implications and happily applied them to my own story! :)

Review:
I really enjoyed the whole story and couldn't stop it once I started. Because of you I am going to bed at this late godforsaken hour. I read in your reviews that you plan on writing a sequel. Will it be as cannon compliant? Or will you take more liberties?

Amazing story!
Comments from author:
First of all, thank you lots and lots for your comment, and I'm sorry to have deprived you of sleep! As for your question, then yes, the sequel will be as canon compliant as I can possibly make it. For Torchwood this will mean up to (and including) Children of Earth, although in Buffy's case I'll have to go beyond canon and decide who lived and who died in the alley. (Which I have actually already addressed in the 'Between Canon' stories, so you can take those as a guiding point. And no, I do not consider the comics canon.)

And THANK YOU again! :)

Forgive my tardyness in reviewing your story. Yours was the very first story I read when I came to TTh and fell in love with not only your story, but the site as well. Your skills are outstanding.
Comments from author:
Oh my goodness, no apology needed! Thank you so much for your comment, I'm sat here blushing. And (hopefully) I will soon make a start on the sequel! :)

Review:
Wow that was great! Well written, true to character and adding a whole entire new life to well loved characters. It was nice to see someone who could give Buffy anything money can buy (and then some) but still have enough dark patches to keep her interested. And as two people who died and came back they were totally made for each other, that is something you have to experience to understand and my favourite scene was when Jack died and then woke up in Buffy's arms and they looked into each other's eyes and *knew* that here was someone who could understand!
You also blended the canon of both series incredibly well, seriously - I don't think I have ever seen better. Unfortunately that means Spike and Angel have to die and Jack ends up alone and back at Torchwood so no happy ending for Buffy :) - maybe in the sequel?
Comments from author:
Thank you so *much* for your lovely and very detailed comment! \o/ Especially because you latched onto several of my main reasons for writing it. Fleshing out things only hinted at in canon was wonderful, especially taking two characters and seeing how they'd work together, and I'm particularly happy that you mentioned the coming-back-to-life part, because it was when I'd realised that they shared this very unique experience that I knew I *had* to write this story. (And then it... grew. A lot.)

As for blending the canons then being an obsessive fan who delights in making tiny details fit together finally paid off big time. Sometimes I worry that I overdid it to be honest.

And yes, I have a sequel planned, and might actually begin writing it fairly soon. *crosses fingers* (Although future events are hinted at in 'Between Canons'.)

Anyway, thank you again, you really made my day! :)
