Shockingly good - wish the first story went longer, but couldn't wait to keep going....until the drabble.
The Drabble didn't feel like it was even the same storyline. i couldn't see the scene or the setting. I'd love to see a redo on the drabble, but the rest was reeeally good!

Ahhh, but is she? She might be crying because Jack's attempt at finding love failed and she's actually happily married with 2.4 kids and wants Jack to know the love she has.
Or maybe she's crying because they both waited so messed up and consumed by each other that both of their relationships have failed.
Being ambiguous is fun!
:D

This was a heartbreaking little snippet. I really like that they've maintained their closeness and friendship, and that their emotional intimacy impacted his life--realistically, it probably would.
Also, I do appreciate that we're not 100% sure if Dawn's tears are because of Jack's pain, or because she's still into him and it's not mutual.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The way I look at it, by meeting Dawn and beginning such a close (and honest) friendship will set him on a course that will alter him in such an emotional way that he won't be as closed off as O'Neill had been. In my eyes, he'll love and respect her above any other woman (whether that is romantic or not I'm not going to say), but it would be impossible for any woman to compete with.
Wow! Powerful, and poignant, and very believable (Jack and Dawn are long-term comrades in arms, and for Jack that's probably always going to be a deeper level of sharing than any non-combat-related romantic relationship, even this time around).

Thank you.
And you're right about Jack and Dawn's comrades in arm relationship/friendship. I pity any romantic partner Jack or Dawn has because they'll always come second to the relationship the two of them share, especially for Jack.

Aw, poor Dawnie. All those years and still not the one.
Comments from author:
Ah, poor Dawnie. But to be fair, they're 37 so we don't know which one of them actually decided not to wait for the other first. (Well, I know but I'm not saying!):D
