Review of chapter "Indeterminate Place, UK" from etraytin
Review:
Very nice story, fits in well with the tone of the book even as it adds so much of the supernatural. And since I live on the I-35 corridor in Texas, it was especially interesting to me. :) It's an interesting question how the slayers and watchers of the post-war period will face the coming generations without slayers, how they'll try to preserve and pass along the knowledge for the time when another girl is finally Chosen.

Review:
I like it. Too bad the format only lends itself to single chapter shots; you spin a believable tale.
Comments from author:
Most of my favorite chapters in the book were the one-off characters too. =) Thank you very much for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed my story.

Review:
Great story. One thing though, I was hoping what Xander was doing during the whole thing, if he even survived.
Comments from author:
I'm glad you liked it, it's one of the most natural stories I've ever written - which accounts for the funny thing about this story: there are a lot of things about it where I can't tell you what happened. I know Willow stayed and survived - I know Dawn got sent through the portals, and I think she went with Spike and Angel. Xander? I have a feeling that Buffy (or Willow) drugged him and sent him through the portals, but I'm not entirely sure - he's stubborn and might have seen through the ruse. What really happened to him, is, in the end, what you think happened to him.

Followed link from LJ.

LOVED it! Excellent narrative voice. Really like that you didn't identify the Slayer speaking. Plausible merging of the two 'verses.
Comments from author:
Oh, I'm very glad to hear that you liked it. The unidentified slayer is actually based in part on my roommate, a good ol' Texas gal who'd totally be a Slayer if we had them. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more crossovers between these 'verses - it was a very easy way to explain the whole Fray-story as well. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Pretty interesting story. It makes me want to read World War Z now. :)
Comments from author:
Allow me to heartily recommend reading World War Z, which every member of my family has read and loved despite our varied tastes in reading. I have no illusions about the ability of this story to stand up to the 800k mammoth it's up against for your award, but I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Thanks for letting me know.

Review:
Great story. You really managed to fit the tone of the book, including the lost hope that most of the humans seemed to have at one point.
Comments from author:
Thank you, it's what I was aiming for.

Review:
Well, that makes Fray completely possible - and does it without making Buffy and co the cause of the lack of new Slayers. Bravo :D

He enters the room knowing Buffy's name, but not the power of the Slayer? Cool.

Good point about the language barrier - Evaporated magic, no way to research translation spells.

Cool way to interpret the Koran.

Nice story, good consequences :)

Review:
Wow! Terrific story and very true to the spirit of the book. But what a depressing ending. I still liked it a lot.
Comments from author:
It's not as bad as all that: the Slayers do come back in 500 years. Thanks for the review!

Review:
Very well done. The tone of your story matched the series well, and I thought the narrator's voice was both solid and interesting. Even though she wasn't talking as much about herself as the situation at large, you gave hints of her personality without detracting from her overall narrative. I also especially liked the glimpses of what the various characters from Buffy were doing during the war and the compromises they had to make -- for example, the only three Slayers in China having to not only dodge zombies but also the military, or the decisions about who and where to help. I also enjoyed the idea that God decided that it is the proper duty of women to kill zombies. (That's going to have some interesting cultural repercussions further down the line.) Great work.
Comments from author:
Yeah, I just liked the idea of the attacks having a completely different effect on the Muslim world than most people in the West would expect, but in a very plausible way (the Koranic verses that I cited are real). Thank you for the review.

Review:
I just finished the audiobook for World War Z a few weeks ago, and I remember wondering how slayers might have fit in there. You did an AWESOME job--got the style of the interviews/chapters spot on, and you even managed to work in a logical foundation for the Frayverse 500-year slayer drought! Kudos.
Comments from author:
Why thank you for the kind review.
