Fabulous update. This is my favorite of the entire series. That said, I wish I could "recommend" the series and not just the stories individually. I adore it and hope you can keep it up!

I *love* this! Your Captain Pike is wonderful and you mentioned Gaila! (And she survived! Was that shown in the film at all, or is that just something you decided? Not that I'm unhappy either way!)

Ditto for me. Can't wait for more. Have always loved Pike and interesting you would bring in Gary. I always thought it was a waste he was killed off so soon in the original.

I have major Step 1 tomorrow, so I can't leave anything verbose, but YAY! on the update and I'm definitely loving your series. It's tempting me to email my friend in Peru and have her mail me a bootlegged DVD so I can watch the movie again and again and again...

While all of the stories in this series are beautifully executed, this one is the most moving thus far. You've captured Pike brilliantly and I can see the interactions clearly in my mind. Well done!

The angst is balanced incredibly well by the hope.

I grew up on TOS, as well, and never found Christopher Pike all that interesting (though he was certainly pretty), but you've convinced me completely that the Christopher Pike in the new movie NEEDED and DESERVED to have his POV explored in more detail, especially during the unseen (in the movie) period of evaluation and adjustment and grieving between winning the battle and returning to face all the consequences on earth.

I'm falling in love with Kirk and Spock and their unique dynamic all over again, seen through Pike's eyes in this fic, and I hope there's more to come of Pike's insightful and very moving ruminations on everything that's happened.

I've written about nine shorts in the Reboot universe so far that I'm slowly posting; no more in this particular Pike thread yet, but there should be a new chapter for it this weekend. This movie has really fired my imagination, especially Pike; his reincarnation was particularly inspired.

Love it! It totally took me back to the movie and you write Pike so well that I can imagine the entire thing happening in the movie!verse. My only complaint is that now you've got me wanting another movie out, stat, lol.

Well, we're not going to get another movie until 2011, but I do plan to add plenty more stories in this series to fill in more of the gaps. Glad you enjoyed it!

Err, just out of curiosity, why did you choose to swap from past to present tense for this chapter?

Well, I was writing all my STXI fic as separate stories at first, before this thread turned into a cohesive series on me. And the present tense has a much more immediate feel to it; it just worked better for me in this particular conversation.
