Review of chapter "Chapter 5: The Farthest Man from Home" from JediLaSombra
Review:
Just read this story and loving it. Any chance of it being continued?
Comments from author:
The full story, in its unrevised state, is on fanfiction.net under the same username as the one I use here.
As for finishing it, I don't have the time right now to work on it.
Thanks.

Finally a story where Xander shows the rest of the scoobies et al how the real world works. I love this. I love that STILL they underestimate him.
The council's idea of leaving even the bad evil human's be is sort of the same as Batman letting the Joker live...and not thinking about the consequences of those actions. any lives or blood spilled after they were let go is on the council's heads.
looking forward to more.

Cool chapter; reading about just how far is Xander willing to go to do the job, was, at moments, hearth breaking, but it shown just how much he has grown up, and knows what the true cost of living a life full of violence from a very young age. Nice thing introducing the Genius loci concept, it's quite the cliche breaking to introduce old mythological concepts in Buffy Fandom; a lot of times, they just go for the seer or the proverbial prophecy or the deamon(messenger spirit) from the PTB.
Cool chapter, see ya!!.
Comments from author:
I liked how Hellboy threw in a bunch of different concepts from vampires and ghosts to mythical creatures based on folklore. It seems like a much richer base to draw on than, hey, let's make that demon look like a bipedal shark.
As for the City, it's more pulled from science fiction, though it has fantasy genre routes as well. Though, it's not really a protective spirit per se.
Thanks.

So Buffy took a choice again, and it was the wrong one, again. I hope Dawn can learn from her sister mistakes. And Xander has good political instincts, it seems to me. Cool thing about the special bullets, but a using a 5.7x28mm FN Five - Seven against a vamp?? Seems kinda underpowered to me, specially in the stopping power area, I would have used a .40mm cal, but I think Xander is using the 20 rounds magazine, so it's about quantity vs. quality trade.
Sorry, got kinda technical there =).
Cool set of chapters, see ya!!.
Comments from author:
It's his standard gun, and it's not going to be the most effective on everything. He chose it mainly for armored targets, but he can change up the rounds if he's going after something specific. Thanks.

I just found this story and I have to say that I've not read any other one like it. Like most people I want to read stories about my favorite character (Xander) being cut and dried. For example, being the one who does everything right by putting the many before himself. Or being shown to be more special than the other Scoobies think he is. However, I don't want to see his flaws put in print. Now, with your story, it drew me in and I don't mind that he is flawed. He knows that he's done things that are not right and is still doing things that he doesn't like. None of the Scoobies are all good and right and they are learning that they are still making mistakes. All the characters are human and not perfect and that is the reason I like this story. Excellent work! Thanks.
Comments from author:
To me, it's not about making them flawed. It's that, at this point at least, they should be aware of their flaws and strive to do better.
Thanks.

Review:
The question is, who is going to try and take Xander out first? Kennedy, for having been shown up? Giles, for the Greater Good of the Watcher's Council(tm)? Or Willow, trying to liberate her inept childhood friend from whatever spirit/demon/bad guy is possessing him?
I have the feeling that Kennedy is going to be the first, or her allies; hopefully Xander will be prepared for it.
Andrew is not a threat; he's the most dangerous when you turn your back on him, or you give him power and authority beyond what he can handle.
Great chapter, look forward to more.

Well, I can't just spoil things. But, something will have to give.

Another excellent chapter here.
Glad to see that at least one of the Scoobies is finally using their brain as something other than a spacer between their ears. Xander set up his ambush perfectly and now he's about a half step ahead of Giles in the contest to save the newly Awakened Slayers from being assimilated and used as 'assets' by any number of squabbling national governments.
I'm disappointed by Willow's apparent lackadaisical attitude towards her magic use, and not at all disappointed in seeing Kennedy's authority taken out from under her as a result of her arrogant attitude. I *really* didn't care for her character at all during Season Sux Part Deux, but that is more a problem with Joss and Co.'s inability to write believable minor characters.
In any event, good job here.
Comments from author:
I didn't mind Kennedy's character so much, she never really got the hugest focus so it wasn't like she overstayed her welcome. The main thing was that she treated it like a game, and I suppose as a collective pulling screentime away from the core characters.
Thanks.

Welcome to the Real World Scoobies. I like your world building, specially the part about world governments cutting ties with The Council, thank to their colonialist attitude. I always disliked that only the Slayers and The Council are the only line of defense against the darkness in the whole world; Come on, I mean this is a way big planet.
See ya!.
Comments from author:
The worst thing is that the Slayer is supposed to be the one fighting all the supernatural evil in the world, yet the world would have ended because of an event that happened a couple of hours away (not S7). If they can't even be aware of what's happening in LA, then how did the Council do anything before rapid transportation? There's actually quite a few holes in the concept, even if I can understand why it's structured as it is.
Thanks.
