Xander really needs to be less self depricating now that he's gotten some training, though not being taken as a serious threat is a great advantage in a fight.

While I agree with what you said about Xander's capabilities, you need to keep in mind that he and Buffy have only been back together as friends for about a week, and that his mindset with respect to her is still primarily determined by how their friendship was, at that time.
He knows Buffy's been through a lot of difficult times, and that she's not exactly the same person he knew back then (which is four years in his case, but only one for her), but he also is still thinking with the mindset that she only regards him as a friend, and has been basically disregarding comments or innuendo she might have said that could be regarded as possibly meaning something more.
Which Buffy has been finding more than a little frustrating, since she would much prefer that he try to romance her, rather than have to declare her feelings to him, first. He's been completely missing or misinterpreting all of the hints she's been trying to subtly drop, since they ended up in that hell dimension, and then arrived at the Bazaar. ;-)
In his mind, Xander still has Buffy set up on this pedestal as a near-perfect superhero who can, more or less, do no wrong, and doesn't really see that she's human and can make mistakes. Remember, that was basically his general attitude towards her during most of Season One, and he only started treating her as someone who could make mistakes and who wasn't perfect in Season Two, for the most part. It's just like you meeting an old friend you haven't seen in a good number of years - you expect them to behave almost exactly the same way they did the last time you saw them, and are surprised when they don't do that.
When it comes to comparing himself to anyone other than Buffy, Xander knows that he's highly trained and extremely competent; it's only when she's added into the equation, so to speak, that he's not seeing what is what.
And Buffy is determined to make him see otherwise. ;-)
Hope this clears things up.

Buffy playing Poker? That isn't something we see very often. Especially since she was playing *well*! I guess the motivation of having buckets of money to spend in a never ending Mall was enough to keep her attention focused on the prize :)
Comments from author:
Yep, that's one way to provide incentive, right? ;-)
Also, the fact that they were possibly going to end up starving and homeless if she didn't play well, was additional incentive.

Oh my, Buffy in the Bazar a.k.a the Mall Dimension is just scary. I love using the Slayer senses for gambling with Demons - that is perfect and fits with the Myth books so well.
Great story!
Comments from author:
Yes, that wold be a daunting idea, wouldn't it? O.O
And the Slayer Spirit might even enjoy taking the demons for everything they possess - makes it even more painful for them. ;-)

Very interesting. I'm not very familiar with M.Y.T.H., but it is turning out to be a good continuation of its predecessor. I look forward to future chapters.
