I really like this story and where it's going. I think the dark, badass, indestructable Xander has been a little overused and it's very nice to see a story where he can be strong, but still human. IMHO, it makes him much more of a hero.

Not a bad start, though I think the relationship moved a bit fast but the story has potential. Though I always felt people over played Caleb a bit. He was strong but not really fast, smart or skilled. Almost any ranged weapon or spell should been able take him out it was only potential slayers and Xander that really fought him. Normal humans for all intensive purposes with either no weapons or medieval hand to hand ones. I would imagine a gun would end the man pretty quickly and the 'invisible Caleb' image gets old.
800 year old vampires get beat up easier than that empowered pawn and Caleb plays with his prey! Thats bad guy mistake number one in almost any other setting, playing with your prey gives them a chance strike back, escape or be rescued.
