Review of chapter "Heroes & Villains" from GaboonViper
Review:
There are two different Dexters currently in existence: TV Dexter, and book Dexter. Personally I think book Dexter is far more interesting than the TV one, as is so often the case when they turn books into film.

You managed to create a decent mix, which contained some of the cool features from the books and some of the more human characteristics from the TV show.

Unfortunately the kill-room stuff seemed too out of character to me. In the books, Dexter rarely makes a mistake, especially one so catastrophic as this one. In the TV show, he makes a lot more of them (for the ratings of course), but only when his usually dormant emotions somehow get the better of him. In my humble opinion there were simply too many loose ends for Dexter to find them truly Harry-guilty.

The Buffy/Willow relationship, despite being a warmblooded heterosexual male, did not entrance me as much as one would expect. Too much mushing and gushing possibly. Although some of it was definitely very entertaining, it did often seem a bit forced. This however maybe because my personal pairing preferences are getting in the way.

Pairings aside, the BTVS characters themselves were very well written. You got their quirks right, and in a subtle way. None of that willow-babble trap a lot of writers on here fall into. I could easily tell from who's perspective I was reading. That, in my very unprofessional view, is the mark of a good writer.

Finally, I want to congratulate you on writing some of the best Dexter I've ever seen in fanfiction. It was a truly wondrous piece of actually completed fiction. The kind I always wish to see more of, but alas, not all of us writers are graced with the talent and/or dedication it takes.

And if my review left you feeling less than whole, I can't help it. I have this urge, you see. This darkness within, that drives me to gut, and dismember any fanfiction that deserves my attention.
Comments from author:
Well, hello there fellow passenger,

Thank you for the feedback and the honesty. I appreciated what you had to say and will take note. I don't think I have more Dexter/Buffy in me for another story, but I had a lot of fun and got to play with the 'what if' if Dexter had run across Buffy in a situation like this. I've failed in areas, but it's to be expected, most writers do.

I have done another Dexter Fic - We Cry - Debra/Dexter centered (but NOT in a relationship, 'cause that pairing just makes my head go to places it'd rather not) - you can find it on ff.net or on my lj under 1shinyboat. I will warn you, I write femslash, I'm not male, I'm female and like girls, a lot...if you feel up to, I'd welcome your feedback there.

Again, thank you, for the time and honesty and may you find more stories to stir that darkness you speak of.

Regards and happy reading,

Whedonist

Very interesting Dexter angle. And, again, I disagree with the slayer line being halted. I know, it's according to prophecy, yet, those can be averted!

The start was simple, but subsequent developments as Buffy and Willow encountered Dexter and his ‘Dark Passenger’s’ awareness of their darker natures was certainly interesting, and the final encounter between the two definitely worked; although I would think that they’d allow Dexter a LITTLE leeway in killing human victims who committed particularly atrocious crimes if they’re somehow profiting from the deaths or something like that, I have no real problem with your final solution.

I've never heard of or seen 'Dexter' but he appears to be a Charles Bronson/Death Wish vigilante type character. I approve of vigilantes, but this guy has faults, he doesn't confirm that they are guilty ... he screwed up with Buffy and Willow. As far as linking him up with a Slayer ... don't know, he's not a superhero or witch ... he's probably gonna die the first time he tangles with a vampire. I see Jimmy is in this story as well as the first one, great character.

Thanks for posting this very entertaining story, a very good read.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Review:
The series finale of Dexter makes it possible to push it into the Buffy 'verse, but matching
this psycho with a Slayer is ludicrous. Maybe this Siobhan can explain to our heroines that
this guy can only kill human monsters, according to the series he's been programmed by
his adoptive dad so he doesn't kill innocent humans. Will this combining of the series improve
either?

Fantastic story...I have been tracking this story since chapter 3 and am very pleased with the ending. I was wondering how you were going to end it. Great story.

I like the ending! It makes sense...although for hilarity, I might have suggested Dana as his slayer.

Methinks Dexter is going to enjoy his work, assuming Siobahn allows him to occasionally "play" with the prey. Vampires after all can last *so much longer* on the table during Dexter's usual ministrations.

Lovely story! I enjoyed it very much - I noticed that it is not marked complete - does that mean we get an epilogue still to come?

Thank you for the wonderful story!

Wonderfully done! You came up with a way to let Dexter live and actually do good. Well done. I even think he'd make a great Watcher. He's very smart and even more 'Ripperish' than Giles. Lol! I liked Buffy's proposal to Willow also. Not too sappy and yet quite romantic, in a very Buffy way. I hope Rita accepts Dexter now having a young female partner and maybe the kids can grow up killing evil things and not be sucked into Dexter's 'life style'. Your whole series has been terrific and I so look forward to more.

EX!-Cellent! As Mr. Burns would say. ;-)

Liking this story and series more with each addition.

There are going to have to be some very specific ground rules laid out for Dear Deadly and Slightly-Demented Dexter before he and Siobhan start working together, so as to preclude any possible future misunderstandings, and Buffy and Willow are/should be smart enough to realize this.

What happens to/Who deals with any humans they run across who are working to summon demons to prey upon innocents?

How do they deal with humans who are voluntarily cooperating with demons to advance their own personal interests at the expense of others?

Who deals with any black witches and/or warlocks they find - especially if said witches or warlocks have already killed humans and/or innocent, pacifistic demons (like Brachens, for example)?

After all, none of the above situations are ones where the aggrieved parties can go to the police and file a complaint, and human law enforcement already has enough on their plate to keep them busy, so it's going to be up to Slayers and their allies to deal with those types of problems.

Is Dexter going to be featured in any future stories or are Buffy, Willow and the Scoobies going to be dealing with other cities' problems?

Review:
really good story. You do a great job expanding your original concept/story into this one. You version of Buffy and Willow are very believable, and likable--there warts make them more human.

I've seen just one full season of Dexter and parts of one other so I'm not as knowledgeable with that show. I had a hard time accepting that Deb would let Dex have a free pass, but it was something I could ignore.

The action scenes were well paced, the story had a perfect blend of cuddley type of emotion mixed with the intense protective love of the slayer.

Good work and thank you for writing it.
