I really don't understand what's going on. I get that the Slayers either lost their powers or their drive to hunt, but what happened at the end?

The line reset itself. Slayers (in this 'verse) have a shelf life of 10 years, and if they survive that, the Slayer essence passes to the next Slayer. 10 years after Willow's spell, all Slayers called, either directly or due to the passing of one called by the spell, lost their powers, a new (singular) Slayer was called, and the Watcher (I always thought of Xander for this, but it isn't specified) happened to notice the new Slayer.
