I really like your take on the twilightverse and it's approach to vampire soulmates and werewolf imprints. It's really only romantic if you're a naive teenage girl. If your a rational mature adult, it's actually slightly horrific.

Although on the other hand, if the falling in love / mating / imprinting thing was symmetrical, it would be highly convenient and much more efficient than the way humans do it.

Good idea, I feel that Xander's a little off, but not enough to say OOC.

Anyway, good fic.

I hope Xander at least gets to visit his scoobie friends, maybe Leah could come with him? Your story is an interesting take on relationships and how they can go wrong if they are too unbalanced.

I very, very, very rarely beg for sequels, but your treatment of imprinting, as well as your deft handling of both Leah and Xander (among my favourite characters in both universes) were so well done, I can't help it. You've again created a sweet, well-woven story combining the two 'verses. This is amazingly sweet and mature love story and I'd love to see more of it.

Awwwww!
sweetest thing I've ever read? I think so!
Honestly, I'd be intensely greatful if you considered writing a sequel, even if it was just a one-shot.

Review:
Thank you for sharing this fascinating and thought provoking story.

I have only ever sampled a few chapters of the first book in the Twilight series, so all I know of imprinting is what is presented in the story and what I've gathered from comments in the reviews to it (both at Twisting the Hellmouth and xover_exchange). Having said that I will go on to say that I have a hard time understanding why anyone, after thinking it through, would not conclude imprinting is more of a curse than a blessing.

Leah and Xander (like any wolf/imprint pairing it seems to me) are caught in a trap from which Leah can't escape at all - and Xander can only escape it by inflicting serious emotional trauma on Leah. Yet his only practical alternative - pursuing any kind of relationship with Leah - seems like exploitation. In fact, I'm not sure it isn't exploitation, given that Leah's feelings have been inflicted on her by an outside force.

Leah's situation actually strikes me as similar in a number of ways to that of Xander's victims during the love spell fiasco of Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered - except that, for Leah, the feelings are permanent. Even as a sometimes thoughtless and immature teenager Xander had enough sense and integrity not to take advantage of any of the affected girls (okay, Buffy - maybe it was more sense and self preservation than integrity) back then, so there's plenty of reason to believe he wouldn't rush into any kind of relationship with Leah. It would be much less believable if Xander (or anyone with a functioning conscience) _weren't_ highly disturbed by finding themselves in the imprint predicament.

Romantic saps would describe Xander's situation as having to decide whether or not to be with your soulmate. Unfeeling Vulcans might describe it as having to determine which of the two courses of action available to him is the lesser evil. I find myself leaning heavily towards the Vulcans.

Great work. I look forward to seeing the sequel you mentioned.

Thank you for your amazing review. I really appreciate your thoughts and feedback.

You know, I had completely forgotten all about BBB when I wrote this fic and I agree that the situations are remarkably similar.

I lean towards the Vulcan way of thinking as well. Pretty much, they've got a shitty situation. Xander can either destroy Leah's life by rejecting her or he can take the lesser of two evils. Although, that's not to say that he's going to rush into a relationship with Leah because (like you said) it will feel like exploitation and Xander's going to have an extremely difficult time reconcilling himself to his fate (especially when it comes to a physical relationship).

Review:
You did a truly excellent job with this story, and I was sad to see that it was only a one-shot. I am not someone that usually likes Twilight crossovers, as I have never really liked Edward’s character, and I found S.M. romanticizes a lot of the concepts in the series, such as the whole shape-shifter imprinting idea. I am glad you gave Leah the chance for a happier ending than she got in the novels, as she is one of my favourite characters, and I thought that had a lot of potential that was never fully used.

I am glad that I am not the only one that thinks that the imprinting process almost makes the wolves into pretty much slaves. You more realistic approach to the imprinting process brought up a lot of the same thoughts and problems I had when I first read about it. You were really able to show how much power the imprinted person has over shape-shifter, whether they want it or not.

You handling of Xander’s thoughts, and reactions were right on, in my opinion. He immediately recognized the lack of choice on Leah’s part, how imprinting on a Slayer would not end well, isolating himself from everyone he knows to protect “his girls,” and then downplaying the fact he restructured his whole life to help a girl he does not even know, but is now responsible for. Given his history with demonic women, he has a lot more emotional baggage to deal with than any of the other imprinted.

This was a truly great story, and I hope you do decide to make a sequel, as there is so much potential here. Leah and Xander now have the potential for happiness, but they have a long way to go from where things were left off. Relationships are never easy at the best of times, and given that Leah still has sparkly vampires to fight, and Xander being the demon-magnet he is, things would be interesting. Xander’s reactions to the other imprinted would be interesting. I could almost see him chasing a morphed Quil with a shovel trying to give him the infamous shovel speech.

Thank you for posting.

P.S. – What is the deal with the fish tacos (shudders)?

Thank you so so much for this wonderful review.

I actually had a bit of a time writing this because imprinting does make me so very uncomfortable and I stalled a few times with this fic because of it. Imprinting is pretty much slavery and I can't think of anything more horrible. No matter what Xander does from here on in there will always be a part of him that will know that Leah's only with him because someone chose him for her. Imagine explaining to their kids (if they have any) how they me!

There are going to be sequels (I can't help myself). Right now all I have planned is for a sequel from Leah's POV which will address her side of the story as well as Xander's sacrifice and their struggles. It's not going to be easy sailing for them, that's for sure.

Again, thanks for the review.

Laney

PS - I was given some prompts to write the LJ xover_exchange challenge and I chose it because it's the only thing that could work. I actually wrote a Tanya/Xander fic when this one stalled but it's awful! I can't write vampires in this 'verse.

I really liked this story. I felt that you really personified Xander perfectly. And you're right that he's the only one for Leah.

Is this a one-shot or do you think there will be a sequel?
Comments from author:
Thank you!

There will be a sequel or two. Although the sequel is in the very early stages.

This was a wonderful story. I like how you explained imprinting and found the characterizations of both Xander and Leah to be great. Xander is the perfect soulmate for Leah. I do look forward to more of this type of pairing. Well written and an enjoyable read as well.
Comments from author:
Thank you! Although, I confess I cheated with Leah by having her OS so often.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I am someone who is hooked on both the Buffy and Twilight worlds and I have felt really bad for Leah in the books because of what has happened to her. I am so glad you found a mate for Leah. In the last book I kept wishing that she would imprint on Jacob but it never happened. I am just glad to read a story where Leah gets a happy ending. I loved the story and would really enjoy reading a future fic of a xander-Leah pairing.
Comments from author:
I feel the same. When SM fleshed out Leah in the books she became my favourite character and I was so hoping she'd get with Jacob, too (not necessarily imprint, but unite in their hatred of it). I was rather disappointed with some of the Jacob-related events in the final book (I'm being vague here in case people don't want to be spoiled).

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. There will be more Xander-Leah fics in the future. Thanks for the review.
