Gor has few redeeming features, I know I read a the first books.

I once had the misfortune of having nothing but "Slave Girl Of Gor" to read. The story was supposedly told by a first person female narrator. I sort of read it in bemusement and horror - it was *DREADFUL*. I am very very pleased that Illyria visited such terrible destruction upon Gor. Perhaps she could do something bloody and visceral to John Norman?

Seconded. Ever been in Second Life? Gor is a plague there. Yes some of them are decent, but the majority seem to be a weird hybrid of stereotypical D&D geek/BDSM fetishist/Fundamentalist wannabe. Not a good combination.

Heh-heh -- couldn't have picked a more deserving destination for that meteor (I've never read the 'Gor' books by John Norman, but they were always prominently placed right next to my Andre Nortons in the sci-fi section of bookstores when I was a kid, and the titles and covers alone were enough to squick me out!).

You really, really don't want to know. I was unfortunate enough to have it inflicted on me, and I still haven't forgiven the friend who recommended the series. As I said in an earlier comment, the Chronicles of Gor make the prose of L. Ron Hubbard read like Shakespeare.

Yes, I knew. One such person's insistence that, "No, it's an *awesome* series, you just have to give it a chance," is actually the reason I read as much of the Chronicles of Gor as I did - an experience which I compare to having all of my finger and toe nails removed one at a time with a pair of pliers. As far as the 'Gorean lifestyle' goes, all I can say is that human beings can be very silly, sometimes. O_o

She does indeed. The basic supposition of this story is that the mutari generator reduced Illyria's power to *below* the maximum level that could be sustained by her shell, and all they did here was bring it back up to said maximum.

As far as the 'vampire' vs 'half-breed' thing, thanks, I had forgotten about that. I have changed her word to 'half-breed.'

The Priest-Kings would have deflected it. If they can move planets between star systems, and keep three moons from destabilizing and falling from the sky, I'm pretty sure they can deflect comets.

Deflect comets? Perhaps they can. Deflect a massive comet that appears suddenly just outside their planet's atmosphere and then plows on down? I maintain a healthy level of skepticism. If it pleases you, you may posit that the Priest-Kings survived the destruction of their world only to be hunted down and mercilessly butchered by Illyria, who took their spines for trophies after the cloud of burning rock dust finally subsided. :P
