Okay the person spying on Xander is a vampire, and the Mayor is still around. I wonder if this vampire might be Mr. Trick. Mr. Trick was first introduced to BtVS as the right hand man for Master Vampire (and monster) Kaskistos. After that creature was staked Tick arranged for Slayer Fest and he went to work for the Mayor. Trick wasn't a typical vampire. He was one of the bad guys, but he wasn't stupid. He wasn't like the typical vamp that was just interested in feeding and killing. Trick made alliances. He tried to choose winning sides. He made long range plans. He was a thinker. That's why I wonder if the bad guy interested in Xander is Trick. This series is great! I'm enjoying each installment. I thought that it was nice of Xander to pay tribute to his friend by using his name.

I can tell you it's not Trick. Trick, when it came down to it, screwed up. He attempted to take a Slayer on hand to hand, when he'd previously said, he'd simply shoot her. He WAS smarter than most vamps, but in the end, he didn't follow through... This is also the reason he never moved beyond being somebody's trusted lieutenant.

Very nice. I just watched the Replacement Killers again last night. (one of my favorite movies) And here this piece of fanfiction just pops up. Keep up the excellent story telling.
