That was pretty much a best case super understanding mother - daughter conversation there. I can sympathise with Joyce about putting her own daughter first but I can't see Xander looking forward to that conversation! It might give him another chance to practice his persuasive ability with women though :) Not like that! I meant so Joyce doesn't kill him... not that that seems likely from her thoughts so far.

Oh, major continuity changes continue with "named" characters being the victims. I thought that Angel was a gonner beyond his memory. It seemed to imply that Spike's deamon had replaced his, perhaps.

We rarely see an POV of in character resolve from Xander other than via catch phrase about looking out or protecting "his girls" - so it is interesting to see this. Anyone who could master carpentry and construction in such a short time, has the ability to apply themselves... not just dream about it. So I see this as another case of reverse extrapolation (going backward in the character's history from what is established later). Done well.

It may be something Buffy *should* tell her mother but probably not something her mother *wants* to hear. Especially any details! Although maybe she would be more understanding than expected if "Hot Red" turns out be someone who turned her love of art into a career :) Like Buffy's mother! Good to see they are all moving forward in their various ways. Cordelia and Xander seem to be making useful plans and starting the work needed to bring them to fruition.

Good to show that Angel's best possibility now is to be a friend and ally. The braking of his curse and Wolf Ram and Hart's machinations might have to wait until the next generation.

Perhaps when Faith comes to town that opportunity will occur again for Buffy to consider. Perhaps all of this thinking will have Buffy ask Giles if a new slayer was activated when she drowned, and they'll bring Faith to Sunnydale sooner - her watcher not being killed by Mr. Trick - but perhaps Buffy and co having a field trip to deal with the vampires of Boston before bringing Faith to Sunnydale.
