This is a really neat story. Especially showing some of the long term effects of things, such as exposure to Crane's fear gas.

Very brilliant -- especially this part:

For the first time since before the tower, Dawn dreamed.

She was Dorothy wearing a checked gingham dress, clutching a yapping little yellow dog named Buffy and running from the curled-and-coiffed witch Glory. Seamlessly, she became Alice running after a blonde rabbit and dodging the tea party hosted by the Mad Xander. Then she was Wendy being led by a feminine Peter, dragging younger versions of Willow and Tara with her to Neverland. She thought happy thoughts, she flew through stars that twinkled and beamed and then suddenly went out, as if a great big breath had blown out all the birthday candles.

"They sing for you," cooed Dru, holding Dawn's hands as they spun in a circle. "They sing and they dance but the song has changed for you, for you… will you make daisy chains when the roses have withered from the stone?" The mad vampires giggled and pulled the girl close, leaning down so their noses brushed and suddenly her face melted into Dr. Crane's.

I love how you write Dawn's emotions or lack there of. It isn't overally dramatic which makes it much more real. You are particularly good at writing her not-feelings. The style conveys her lack of feeling very well and when she started feeling again it felt raw, real.

Hope you pick this back up!
