Review of chapter "Dancing in the dark" from (Current Donor)Listener
Review:
Pretty creative. I like how you logically extended the various slayer-isms to become part of the parlance. Perhaps the ship names were a bit much, though.

Review:
A fascinating take on the future of the Slayer line. This would be an excellent basis for a longer story or a series of shorts - or just as it is, a wonderful stand-alone. Thanks for sharing this.

Ed. I just realised it was part of a series - looking forward to reading the rest.

Hi Pythia, glad to see another story from you! Loved this fic, reminded me a bit of one of my favourite Cordwainer Smith stories "The Game Of Rat And Dragon" which had pinlighters and cats instead of Watchers and Slayers. Also, I thought of the bowships from "State Of Decay" and the human-piloted Shadow ships from "Babylon Five". Greatly look forward to the other stories you'll do in this future 'verse :)
Comments from author:
Well spotted! I love 'the Game of Rat and Dragon' - love Cordwainer Smith, actually, who (like Sam Delany) is a master wordsmith and writes eloquent SF that submerges you into the sight and scent and sounds of his worlds. If I could achieve on tenth of that mastery, I would be a very happy writer, indeed.

Reminds me of the FarFuture stoyline from Babylon5
After the fall of earth with the last of the Rangers waiting to rebuild civilization.
Comments from author:
I will admit to Bab5 being one of my influences for this - among a great many other things! *g*

Fantastic. I don't think I've read anything like it. It made me think of some of my favorite space epics. Loved it. Please, please continue the story.

"For the last of the One, and the first of the Many"
Well-turned phrase, and a ficlet that I'll be thinking about for a long time to come. Thank you.

Review of chapter "Dancing in the dark" from (Past Donor)Idhren
Review:
Oh glory. O gloria in excelsis.

This is the first BtVS 'far future' fic set in space that I've liked, that actually felt true to the core canon. Slayers as integrated fighter pilots, the traditional dancing in the new; vampires in their ships with mystic leech lines, looking for blood and 'soul fire' (I'd think the former would be more in demand with newly turned vampires, but the mystery of the latter appeals to me); Watchers as spotters, active not passive in a universe where watching means love; and the legendary members of the Scooby gang, memorialized as floating bastions of lore, safety, and home. All the core elements are present.

I love that you evoke so much with so little. There's just enough to see the depth of your vision:

"The gift of the Slayer became a first a badge of honour and then simply an unwelcome echo of a less civilised time."

You had me right from this line. Thank you for sharing this gift of a fic.
