Review of chapter "Epilogue" from MarcusSLazarus
Review:
It’s official; THIS is brilliant.

The sheer originality of it would be effective as a mere concept, but you so brilliantly bring Dean into the Discworld that it’s almost impossible to believe that things could go that smoothly, beginning with his natural assumptions that Zachariah or Gabriel/Loki are responsible and developing from there in a highly effective manner as he meets other characters.

His instinctive respect for Vimes is particularly effective, Dean’s natural distaste for authority countered in a plausible manner by Vimes’s ‘man on the street’ approach to his job despite his ‘excessive’ promotions, and even his interaction with Angua and Vetinari works out well (Particularly considering how complicated Vetinari’s always struck me as someone to write), to say nothing of his meeting with the Feegles.

A bit ambiguous about Gabriel helping the other archangels in the final confrontation after he stood up to Lucifer in the show, but the idea of the angels being outmanoeuvred by such small creatures is more than hilarious enough to make up for that, to say nothing of the promise of ‘retirement’ waiting for the Winchesters at the conclusion.

Wow. Thank you. It's been two years now and I like to think I've grown some as a writer since (fewer Buffy crossovers, sorry to say, hence not a lot of posting here; you can find most of my more recent work under the same screenname at Ao3), but this remains one of my favorite things that I've ever written, so it makes me all giddy to see such praise for a favorite child. As to the Gabriel thing: like I said, the whole thing was finished before Hammer of the Gods aired, so the Epilogue is a LOT more AU than had originally been intended; I was going off of his "Changing Channels" 'I just want it to be over' riff. But hey: Trousers of Time, right? Anyway: I'm humbled by your praise and well... yeah. Thanks for taking the time to give it.

Review:
Absolutely awesome story. I'm kind of disappointed that Dean didn't end up asking Death for help, but I doubt it would have been as awesome and entertaining as Dean asking the Nac Mac Feegles. I think Sam would go kind of insane in Discworld, but if Dean can cope with not killing every nonhuman in sight, then he'll be able to manage as well.
Comments from author:
Glad you liked it. As much as I wanted to (and tried!) I was never going to fit *every* character from the Disc into this story, so some trade-offs had to be made. The problem with Death was he made getting off the Disc too easy - and I really wanted Dean to see Lancre and have that chance to really get to know Angua. And I think you're on the right track - if they ever do settle in the Discworld, Dean will have much less trouble adjusting than Sam. Thanks for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback.

Awesome. Heh, I thought you might wind up with the Nac Mac Feegle bodily lifting up an angel or two and stranding them outside of Earth ;)

Hmm, Dean seems to have had some serious misconceptions about things like the Discworld Death and what Angua's wolf form actually looks like that weren't relieved over the course of the story, but that's cool :D Everyone needs... something.... Heh, there's a phrase here I'm missing. ;)

Great story, well done cameos. Excellent footnote and ripple effects - especially the literal one swamping the monks' mandala :)

I'm glad Dean found some people he could care about that would accept what he told them as true.

Great Earth monsters as well, only seen an episode or two, but you definitely captured the spirit of both fictions :)
Comments from author:
Yep, there's some things that Dean gets dead wrong, but the poor boy doesn't have the advantage of seeing everything through third person-omniscient narration, so we'll have to forgive him. And it's amazing who will trust Dean when he starts telling the truth. Glad you enjoyed the story, it was a great pleasure to write.

Review:
Any story that can include the Watch, Wizards, Witches *and* the Nac Mac Feegle automatically qualifies as awesome. I've never watched Supernatural (I've picked some up through crossovers on this site) but thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless. Thanks!
Comments from author:
I tried to get as many character groups in as I could (and while I knew Rincewind wasn't going to make an appearance, the entire first chapter is an homage to him), because, well, I love them all. Glad someone else enjoyed my scavenger hunt approach to the crossover. And I'm also well pleased to hear it was accessible to people only familiar with one of the canons. Thank you for reviewing.

Review:
"Cute cloak, by the way, what does it give you, plus-3 defense against the cold facts of reality?"
"No, I just like the way it billows behind me all heroic-like," said Dean

BEST LINES EVER. This was an awesome story that basically rocked hard from the beginning to the end. A really unusual crossover, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Loved it!
Comments from author:
Tee hee, I liked that line too: a little bit of the Joss-verse leaking in to my first completely non-Joss crossover. I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed the story, thank you for reviewing.

Review:
This was a brilliant crossover. You got down the universes and characters perfectly!
Comments from author:
Characterization is always my first priority, and in the case of the Discworld, the universe itself is a character. Thanks for reviewing, and I'm happy to hear you think I got it right.

Ok that really shouldn't work, but it absolutely bloody does!!!!!!
I do not know how, but you managed to traverse the whole of the Discworld, incorporate a good portion of the most memorable characters, include a sound plot, and do it flawlessly. It just reads perfectly- like it was effortless to write. If approached wrong, then Dean can come across as arrogant, whiny and generally not likable, but he sounds spot on in this. And to even consider using Discworld in a crossover is crazy, given it's a series of complicated books with lots of characters and lots of themes, but you've obviously invested a lot of time and effort in this, and the care and attention shows.
I really don't know how else to articulate it, but it was like reading something written by the great knight himself...
Bravo to you; Bravo.
Comments from author:
That's an incredibly kind review - not sure I earned the Pterry comparison, but I sure had fun playing with his toys, albeit it was far from effortless. Good to know the seams don't show. And the whole point of the story was to make Dean less whiny, so I'm happy to hear I succeeded. Thank you reviewing.
