Review of chapter "Chapter One" from (Current Donor)romero
Thanks for the good read. I enjoyed seeing this different twist to their lives.
Comments from author:
Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know that you enjoyed this - it is much appreciated. Especially as this was quite painful to write in places, but sort of haunted me until it was done.

Reread this, because I love all of your stories and realized I hadn't read one in a while. Entirely excellent :)
Comments from author:
Thank you. I have a long story developing - up to 7,500 words now, which I will start posting after Christmas when I have a few chapters in hand.

Many moons have passed since I read this last, and I was in the mood for a LOTR non-crossover. Ah, I forgot how much I enjoyed this rather peculiar tale. It seems so fitting to their lifestyles, Eowyn and the men.

Since it is left up to us in our own mind's eye, I imagine that Boromir still passes, for I cannot see that ending a different way. Perhaps Theodred would survive, I know not. I *do* think that Denethor would wed Eowyn to Faramir, who would then realize they were soul mates and that would be so nice for them :)

Thank you for writing so well that I can enjoy your stories an endless amount of times.

EDIT: Elo! I just glanced down at the date and I realized it has been exactly 2 years to the date that I reviewed this story! ha, that amuses me :)
Comments from author:
Re edit - that amuses me, too! Thank you so much for both reviews.

I am never quite sure how it would have gone - I think she would have sent to baby to safety in Helm's Deep, probably one night when Grima wasn't looking. Boromir might have been more tempted by the ring - but then he might have been better able to resist... Theodred might have survived - which would make one wonder whether he would have wed Lothiriel even though he was old enough to be her father - or might he have chosen not to marry and declared Éomer his heir?

If Boromir died it is possible that Éowyn would marry Faramir and it be a happy marriage - there are a lot of possibilities and one day I might. come back to it and make some decisions

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Callista
Nice, I loved Eowyn's reactions and strength in this story.

Comments from author:
Thank you so much - this (and later A Powerful Absence) was one of those stories that just forced me to write it, and I am always so pleased when someone says that they enjoyed it.

I'm cool with a return to canon for at least one reason... the warrior Éowyn deserves lots of orgasms of her very own, and her own poet-man seems like the perfect one to give them to her.

I'm always of the opinion that more than one man is a nice thing for a woman to have in her bed, so I'm not bothered by the flexible sexuality as one of your reviewers put it.

edit: I enjoyed the twists you created in the character's lives. I know of Theodred only from the movie, so I don't know what there was of him in the book's canon... Boromir (the movie version)... simply fits well. I really *need* to read those books... my excuse is too much school and writing of my own...
Comments from author:
I'm so glad you enjoyed this - it was sparked off by a discussion on Live Journal and sort of haunted me until I wrote it - rather like A Powerful Absence did.

It would work fine to return to canon I think - possibly the baby dies - but I like to think she actually already had the baby fostered to keep it away from Grima - and feels the best thing she can do for the child, with both Boromir and Theodred dead, is fight.

There is not a lot about Theodred in the book - he was a warrior, a leader of his men, he made a last stand to safeguard the entrance to Rohan from the orcs...

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from starshinedown
I tend not to think about flexible sexuality (my brain is firmly heterosexual, so unless it's blatant, as you have here, I just...don't notice other possibilities) when I read stories like LotR, so a story like always makes me ponder.

I love this outtake and possible history, through to go straight back to canon, i'd like to know what happens to Eowyn's child. All three folks here are beautifully realized, and their solution touching. I'm happy to see they've found a workable accomodation for all three.
Comments from author:
Me neither, usually - which is why this is so far out of my usual comfort zone - but it just came to me complete in a flash after a passing comment on Live Journal - and it just hammered at me to write it. Perhaps I am slightly more open to flexible sexuality after getting so involved with 'my' elves and the way they have slowly developed... I don't know!

But I'm really glad that you enjoyed this and it worked for you. I may just leave it here for ever - or I might come back to it in time. But in the meantime I have about 1,000 words of the next Returnverse story written - with a fifty year old Éowyn who is happily married to Faramir. Now that I have given in to this one and got it done I can go back to that again.

Like someone else said, at first I wasn't too sure about this concept but, like everything else your write, it was beautifully done and I really enjoyed it. Wonderful job with the characterizations and leaving it open at the end for the reader's imagination :)
Comments from author:
Thank you. I am so glad that you enjoyed it.

When the idea first came to me, it was so outside my usual stuff that I thought 'Meep! I can't write that!' But it hammered away at me until I started to write, and then it simply flowed. But I was still very unsure as to whether anyone else might find it believable, or whether I would come downstairs this morning to find a whole lot of 'You are completely mad, I have never heard of anything so ridiculous!' comments.

Now I have another straight Buffyverse story to post here whilst I get on, in the background, with a Returnverse story featuring a fifty year old Éowyn who is feeling her age - as well as a small family of elves and a not-quite elf, of course...

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from (Past Donor)Joyful
This was absolutely amazing. I balked at the concept of it at first, but three paragraphs in I was captivated, and any "it's just wrong" thoughts faded. The story was so beautiful it doesn't matter if it doesn't fit into canon. I loved it.

And Theodred is a character I love in fic.
Comments from author:
I have a couple of friends in the LotR fandom who came to the conclusion that Théodred and Boromir as a couple would fit very well into canon. The first time I read a piece where this is the case I, too, baulked at the concept andthen found, very quickly, that my 'it's just wrong' thoughts faded! And I read very little slash.

Throwing Éowyn into the mix came from a passing comment, and it just hammered in my head until I wrote it - much to my own surprise, as I have never thought of writing anything with a slash theme either!

I am so glad that you love it - especially if you are a Théodred fan, and it worked for you.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from purrfus
Takes everything in a totally different direction. There might just be enough here to keep Boromir on the straight and narrow path, and prevent his death. Very well thought out and written.

If the bunny bites I would like to read it.
Comments from author:
Thank you - there is the possibility that Boromir will survive because he has different ties and loyalties, and/or that Théodred behaves differently at the Fords of Isen, and survives. Or that they both die anyway, and Éowyn is comforted by her brother-in-law and ends up married to him anyway.

I intend to leave it as is for now and get on with the Return of The Key series, but I think I will come back to it eventually - perhaps even write both threads...

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from kaleecat
A thoughtful, well written 'what if'. You allow each of them, particularly Eowyn, some measure of dignity and happiness. I like to think that this did change things--that Boromir's years of loving with Thoedred and Eowyn's strength with a child to protect allowed change to ripple through their destinies.

I quite enjoyed this; well done.
Comments from author:
Thank you so much for reviewing. I can see so many different ways for this to go - so at the moment I am leaving it here, and returning to my other LotR/Buffyverse series to write 50 year old Éowyn married to Faramir. But I think I might come back to this sometime.
