Review of chapter "19" from lunalurker
Review:
Wonderful and sad and moving and fits so very neatly into her background and the complex personality we came to know later on the show. And now I have to look into this other movie that is the crossover too!
Thank you for writing.
Comments from author:
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed :) Sadly I cannot reccommend the movie, it was not very good, Angelina Jolie or no. The book by Joyce Carol Oates, however, is excellent, though very oddly written in the grammatic sense. However, my Legs is more predominantly based upon the (more mysterious and self-preserving) movie Legs than the book version, who was a little younger and more complex.

I do have a few other stories about Legs/Faith and Faith/Diana if you are interested, all posted on here.

Review:
Fantastic series and a forbidding conclusion of "Watch..." that could do with a continuation and a more rosy ending. Yeah I'm wimping out
Comments from author:
the continuation would be my story "Jailbait" which actually does have a more rosy ending. And after that, she's in Sunnydale. This is a prequel of Faith's story. I do hope you enjoyed parts of this though

Review:
ok, that was a downer, but made a lot of sense--Diana was too smart to let a vamp into the house. And this helps explain the emotional mess that was Faith in season 3. Though I still think she might have turned out alright if not for Gwendolyn Post then the Deputy mayor then Wesley turning her into the council, then (well you get the idea, heh). Joss really knew how to turn the screws on someone. The miracle is that she later came back from that. Angel did good there.
Comments from author:
Yep, she'd obviously gone through something traumatic...and even so she was strong enough to have been okay without all that mess. It's amazing actually that she took so long to go bad

Which brings up the question...how DID they get at Diana? She'd never have invited them in...
As is, Faith is just lucky they didn't sire her--imagine the nastiness that would ensue after that.
So, it's run for Sunnydale with next to no money. Oh! On her way there, don't forget the encounter with a giant alligator that she mentioned...
Comments from author:
You will see in the next couple of chapters how they got her...I'm thinking people may be shocked. lol. As for alligator...who says she didn't make that one up on the spot? :P

Little knowing it's a surprise birthday party thrown by Diana D. "Disguising her handwriting".
Ok, maybe not.
That whole 'sense vampire' thing, B. couldn't do it at first either. A few years later she knew when Spike was watching her from the shadows. I think it just takes time to develop, same as how a slayer gets stronger over time. Or something.
Comments from author:
Lol not would be right...

That's true. And they would also have to be pretty focused, which Faith is not.

Review:
gee, everything is going so well for Faith. Probably the best time of her entire life. What could possibly go wrong? And of course her watcher is unhappy that she got called, since that means her life will be a lot shorter. Too bad. I wonder if Dormer knows the details on Kendra & Buffy running off, or not. I get the feeling maybe Giles didn't tell the Council that Buffy had run off. Wouldn't surprise me.
Comments from author:
I doubt he would have, he would have wanted to protect her.

Review of chapter "12" from AllenPitt
Review:
yep, it was a rush for her. And the months there with Dormer makes one realize what it must have been to arrive in Sunnydale to find a Watcher who was focused on somebody else and barely had time for her. Buffy really shut her out emotionally (scene where Faith asks about Angelus, & Buffy says she wasn't ready to talk about it yet--true, but it must have felt pretty distancing....)
Comments from author:
Yeah, even if she hadn't been grieving and guilty over Dormer's death it would have been hard to come to a situation where you are considered second string and rarely thought about or worried over. They relaly were very thoughtless and neglectful. one of my least favorite things is when Buffy walks out of Faith's motel room in Revelatons after she makes it very clear she wants to talk to her.

added in: Can't email you back so...yes, i agree, anyone who was eating as fast and enthusiasitically as she was while knowing she was living in a motel should have set off alarms...and also, like you, no idea why the council would think someone like wes could handle two slayers, let alone unusual ones like those girls. Faith did need a Watcher who would care about her and be just hers and deserved one frankly, i agree she would have been okay if she'd had that from the start and her relationship with buffy would have turned out differnetly as well. Or even if giles had stepped up and been the watcher he should have been for her. mostly though from the get go once they knew teh truth about Diana's death and that Faith was a minor living alone in a motel that, by the way, VAMPIRES could get into, someone should have stepped up and did something.

Review:
How close are you going to follow the series?. Just having Faith's story alone is great reading.
I'll be timidly peeking at upcoming updates. Can't wait.
Comments from author:
You'll have to see how closely...but I'll say that nothing in canon is changed as a result of this story. I hope you're enjoying :) Thanks

Review:
well at least she knows about Buffy & her general location. That's something. Makes sense too as in S7 it was clear the potentials had only very vague knowledge --ie "I hear she once..." kind of stuff. Nothing in detail. (And how weird was it that nobody told Giles or Buffy about Kendra? Almost got Kendra killed on arrival in Sunnydale, B. thinking she was Taraka)--
* And come to think of it, they never explained how Angel go this tattoo. I guess there was just no story there.
Comments from author:
It is rather weird about Kendra...the council seems to fall down on the job a lot as far as Giles and his knowledge is concerned. Then again took them long enough to send faith a watcher didn't it? I've always wondered about Angel too...

Review:
Buffy did have access to the diaries of watchers that had 'run' slayers but it is interesting how little (almost not at all) Giles would talk about that--it only came up in S5 when B. got all concerned about trying to stay alive after getting stabbed by an idiot vamp....
One would think the rational way to do this would be to have a 'potential school' where they're all gathered and taught, with a slayer swinging by to give guest lectures. Maybe the traditions got frozen before the age of easy/cheap transport, so the practice was to have watcher/potential pairs all over the world? With watchers training their potentials but also on the alert for supernatural problems? And they just never adapted to the modern age, maybe. plus if you're all in one spot, more easily wiped out of course.
But note Faith has no idea who the current slayer is, or where, or how to contact in an emergency. Even Dormer doesn't think of things like that, and she cares more than most watchers do. BUT I bet when Kendra is chosen & there are 2 slayers, word will spread real quick.
Comments from author:
I would think that Watchers don't want to dwellon other slayers to call attention to the fact that they died; it would be uncomfortable for slayers to think about their own impending deaths by recalling the other slayers'. I would think Giles and Diana too because they care about their slayers would not like thinking about their deaths or discussing other slayers' deaths much with them.

Review:
Dormer really has her work cut out for her...but in the end Faith has no defense against someone who genuinely cares about her & looks out for her... especially as she's never had that before. Losing her to Kakistos probably messed her up pretty badly, causing her to retreat into her old "don't care" persona. Up until that moment I bet, for a while, she was someone Buffy wouldn't have recognized as Faith.
Hm... will Dormer be telling her about Buffy at some point? And Kendra when that time comes? There being TWO active slayers would be huge news, I'd think, every Watcher alive would be buzzing over that one. Come to think of it, she must have been told it was Kendra who died, otherwise she wouldn't have known to go to Sunnydale for help later on...
Comments from author:
You're correct with that...she couldn't help but change with Dormer in her life, and once that influence was ripped away, it would be instinctive to revert to her former self.

As for Dormer talking to her about Buffy, that will likely happen within the next chapter or two. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Review:
it could be something truly horrible, like D Dormer telling her she's disappointed in her. There's no defense against that! ... hm, I wonder when she'll hear more about the current Slayer & that she lives in Sunnydale. She had to have had the location & a name before Kakistos. (and yet again, Dormer for all her virtues still fell down on a few points--name & phone # of the other slayer and/or her watcher; emergency phone # to reach the council with, stuff like that.
* Yep, the room & board is her 'salary'. Seems munificent to a street kid, but if she gets Chosen-- it's a rip off in a way. very low pay for what she'll be doing.
Comments from author:
Then again, say Dormer gave her the number...would Faith really want to use it and risk being blamed in some way (illogical as that thinking is) or made to not go to see Buffy?

As for room and board being salary, yes I agree it is a rip off. They should receive full and considerable pay for their job.

Review:
Makes sense--in S4 she met spike, and based on just that name, knew who he was (while she was in Buffy's body). so she did study, and learn quite a lot while a Potential. Still can't believe the Watchers didn't send her a watcher of her own; then when Giles was fired, only sent one to 'run' both of them. That was a huge mistake.
Anyway--huh, 14...so she probably was with this watcher for a good year at least.....
Comments from author:
She'll be with her for eighteen months to be exact...quite long enough to get attached.

That was my reasoning, that if Faith had a more typical Watcher than Buffy that she would learn more. It was rather ridiculous that the WAtcher didn't take more of an interest in her until it was too late to help her.

Review:
Good to know there aren't any lingering traumas ....yikes. D. Dormer has her work cut out for her. But Faith is still young enough to 'reach'. Too bad it won't last long enough.
* Side rant: how come slayers aren't given emergency phone #s to use in case something happens to their watchers? There was faith all on her own, having to get to Sunnydale all on her own, no way to contact the council for help, money, anything? Weird.
Comments from author:
Anyone in her situation (as I've written it, and likely canon as well) couldn't escape without trauma. And yes, being young, and given to someone who would care for her, Faith would likely straighten up fast. The show repeatedly showed her responding eagerly to someone giving her love and attention and direction as an authority figure.

And of course just as she settles in & gets to trusting her watcher; Kakistos comes along; then she trusted Gwendolyn Post and that didn't go well at all, at all. It's a wonder she wasn't even crazier in season 3.

awful isn't it?
