Review of chapter "A Man Chooses, A Slave Obeys" from omnimercurial
Review:
Good stuff!

There should be more Bioshock fics, Its a damn shame there isnt more.

only problem I have is that you havent continued this so I dont know how you intend to tie Rapture into BTVS World & Mythos/Lore.

Would Rapture have been real or be a game or book that Ethan made use of in his spell?

Is the Mayor aware of the power of WYK or did his twee & polite dialogue trigger it accidently?

The Adam Slugs could be Magical Lifeforms perhaps? Even if the Plasmid & Tonic changes are non magical the vector for change to genome being magical could be fun. :)
Comments from author:
Thank you, this was rather fun to write and every so often I come back to it, but for now actaully getting into the real world has shrunken my writing time, and I'm trying to finish my two major projects.
Feel free to take the idea and run with it, just give me some credit.

So, no idea for the rest. Mayor it could be either or, scrying letting me know the pass trigger, or it could have been random chance, which would make for an interesting storyline as he figures out Xander's buttons.

So, if you want to run with it go ahead, sounds like you have some good ideas and the site can always use more stories.

Thanks for the review.

I admit, having never played the game, I read this as the Mayor actually being a "good guy," which I thought was kind of a twist - right until the explanations and the reviews. Nicely done!
Comments from author:
One of my more subtle works, and one I'm rather proud of.

I love the premise I've set up personally. Here Xander is with this amazing power, and a just as large Achilles heel he doesn't know about.

I kind of what to continue it, but am open to others taking it.

Thanks for review and sorry for my slow response, internship kept me bogged down.

Sounds like the Mayor picked his costume. But not for great power or anything, but rather for a certain level of power... and a built in hook. Explains why the change stuck too. I /LIKE/ this idea. I'd really be interested in seeing more if you ever went that way.
Comments from author:
That'd be a good idea if I ever continue it, I'll have to remember that.

Thanks for the review.

Never played Bio Shock, but i would be interested in reading the Big Daddy Series.
Comments from author:
Thanks.

Not sure if I ever will go back to it though. There'd be a lot of angst and stuff, not so much fun to write.

A great beginning -- I hope you keep going. The idea of Xander with Jack's power and problems is terrifying and yet intriguing as all hell.
Comments from author:
Thank you.

Noplans to continue it for now, to many other things on my plate.

I read another review asking where ADAM would come from if further empowerment or powering up another would come into play.

A slight change on the Swim Team incident, demonic or even vampiric blood mixed with the aquatic steroids? It can be done.
Comments from author:
good idea, but I don't really see the need for ADam in the sotry. If it does come up though, your idea would be really useful. If I use it I'll give you credit.

Thanks for the review.

Parallels to Jack? So Jessica had an affair with the Mayor and Xander is actually a Wilkins, not a Harris?

Neat Idea, though. Glad to see a BioShock NOT set in Rapture. Love to visit the place, though...
Comments from author:
Nah, I mean situation wise. working for who they think is a good guy to kill a bad guy who turns out to not be bad, while the guy they are following is the real bad guy.

thanks.

Easily one of my favorite games of all time, if you want someone to beta-read/proofread let me know. I have both games and have played the first multiple times.

I do wonder where they are going to get the ADAM from though, since the slugs are at the bottom of the sea. Same question with EVE, as everything was a massive science project. Or is the story just based on the "would you kindly" phrase? Hoping to see the Chameleon tonic in here (best one ever). If I can make a request though, no fire plasmid, it would get rid of any challenge in killing a vampire. So many questions... Was he born in Rapture? Is he going to get the suit? Pipe wrench or drill? Will Dawn actually harvest bodies? Big Sisters?

I'm really looking forward to more of this, if you can't tell.

EDIT: Saw your response, figured I'd comment (again). I'm currently trying to write a Crysis cross, but you got me to go back and restart Bioshock 2. If he is going to kill Ryan, is he actually going to go to Rapture or is everything going to take place above ground in Sunnydale? The mayor is taking Atlas' role, so it's a bit confusing. I'll wait to see more in the storyline.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the offer.

why the need for Adam? xander is right now at full plasmid capacity, but with the command still wired in, so around the time he kills Ryan. no need for more powers, they'd be overkill. Eve regenerates thanks to food and I stole a genetonic from the second game, the 'Fountain of Youth' so he's fine on that.

If I do do the Xander as Delta and Dawn as Eleanor, it won't be for a while. I haven't really conisdered much for the idea, so no idea about ADAM or EVE yet. and it would be from Halloween, the after affects of the spell, with ADA and EVe having a magical component to them which is what allows the extensive genetic modifications without outright killing the subjects.

Thanks for the review.

PS_ If you're so enthusiasitc about the idea you should write it. I know I always enjoy writing about subjects I like which is why I have so many action adventure stories. You should try it.

This is certainly interesting, and I look forward to more of it. Especially appreciated how you had the MAyor come and personally talk to him.
Comments from author:
thanks.

and of course the Mayor would come recruit him personally, he always stuck me as a handson kind of guy when it was needed.

I liked your story! The Mayor was always my favorite villain because he was smart most of the time. Having Xander work for him mostly doing good things just tickles me to death. I'd love to read more of this story. Hint, hint. Lol!
Comments from author:
thanks for the review.

I'll probably write more of this eventually, but for now its a oneshot.

And I liked the Mayor too, he was my kind of villian. Intelligent, far planning, and determined. If he didn't have that emotional connection with Faith he would have got away with it too, sigh...why don't villians ever learn?

just what exactly is he ???

He is Jack Ryan from Bioshock, a genetically engineered man wired to obey the commands with 'Would you kindly' in them.
