Pretty good story, and I agree that Jack and Tess should be together, the fourth season was stupid to have them breakup like that.

I really liked this story - I loved the Carter/Tess pairing and the elimination of that is what I like least about Season 4. I'd love to see more set in this universe and/or an alternate Season 4 with Tess remaining in the picture. I also loved the reference to the University of Rochester in Chapter 2 - I live less than 5 minutes away from the school, and Rochester, NY so rarely gets noticed by the wider world. Is the experiment you referenced there true? I am not enough of a science person to know, and I'd love to hear more about it if it really happened (but don't even know where to begin to look).

The experiment I mentioned is definitely true; I spent a good couple of hours on Google looking up the "science" mentioned in the episode so Tess would sound like the genius astrophysicist she's supposed to be. *grin* I don't know much more about it than I mentioned in the fic; but there are articles about the experiment online if you search for them. Glad you liked the story, and that the detail appealed to you!

Thanks for this. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks Tess deserved better than the abrupt change from the end of season 3 to the beginning of season 4. (ie. go to your dream job in Australia, we can still make this work -> this wont work we're done).

I know! I wrote this in the hiatus between seasons, and the really, really abrupt breakup in 4.1 was a big disappointment to me. Glad you liked the fic.
