*read with whine in voice* "Awwww mannn! I was just getting into this story and it ends!"

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system :)

I liked the ability of your story to evoke emotion in the reader. You did a very good job of describing the scenes and moving through transitions well. I also liked the concept.

However, I don't hold out much hope you will be writing more. It's been almost a year, and the odds are not in favor of more. This is too bad. It's a great story beginning and could lead to a very well developed one.

Great job at a story beginning. Thanks for sharing your creativity!

I just wanted to respond to a review I read here...they have the basic universal translators so they'd understand him, more or less notwithstanding the usual Buffy-verse slang, he'd have trouble with anyone on the crew not from Earth, so maybe Tuvok, Neelix, Kes, etc. But it's not like they wouldn't be able to rig up a portable translator.
Comments from author:
Ah, thank you for pointing this out. I will probably refer to it later in the story. :D

Love it and looking forward to more. I read you response to a review and I appreciate your understanding of Xander (and the world he lived in). Xander wasn't just the stable one; he was the normal guy. The one who had no magical powers, no super brain, or heroic strengths except for the essence of Xander. He was loyal (sometimes to the point of annoyance), loving even when it wasn't returned, and human with no special effects (he showed them every day why they fought), which wasn't so that those like themselves (who could fend off the demons and vamps) but for the every day man who couldn't. There is a reason they used him as the "heart" of the spell when they fought Adam.

I can see Xander as a strong force on Voyager - kind of like a combination of Neelix and Tom (good hearted warrior without all of the hang-ups). I see him giving the Voyager crew another perspective on things they take for granted --that's one of the greatest strengths of the everyday guys. They see the obvious. And on a lighter note-the conversations between Xander and Seven as well as Xander and B'Elanna are going to be explosive and funny. Thanks.

Review:
I truly love this story. Any story that has a 'character death' where the character is still alive and we can see the reaction of their friends is one of my favourite pieces of fiction to read and the way you wrote it was brilliant.

The speech patterns for the 'Voyager' crew are damn near spot on. Janeway's interaction with the crew on the bridge was amusing to read and, well, everything Seven did was brilliant.

I'm greatly looking forward to the next chapter. I can't wait to see what has happened to Xander after his exposure to Open Space and to read how he'll interact with Seven. I imagine he's going to do his best to 'humanize' her, just like he did with Anya, right?

I got the strong impression that Xander has jumped to the future, instead of an Alt. Universe in which he already knows of the Trek verse. Am I right?
Comments from author:
I cannot tell you how thrilled and relieved I am that you believe my speech patterns for the crew are acceptable. This is the first time I have ever attempted to write in that fandom, and to say I'm nervous is a severe understatement. I adore the show and feel well versed in its canon, but it's such a new thing for me. I'm glad you think I'm doing reasonably well! :)

As for Xander's interaction with Seven, your suggestion is what I had originally considered, but I've been lately thinking about going in a different direction. In fact, it might be that Seven's lack of humanity (relatively speaking) is exactly what Xander will need when he wakes up... And that's all I'm saying about that! ;)

Your last question? Yes. Definitely yes.

Thank you so much for reading!

Review of chapter "A Barbarian at the Gate" from Alberic
Review:
I like this story so far, and can't wait to see where you go with it. I hope that Xander is the only crossover though - no demons/vampires/Scoobies/etc coming over, showing up, or living long enough to run into Xander again. Let him shine with his new family, cause that's what Voyager did best - make a family out of characters that would normally be little more than para-military adventurers.

I hope Xander has at least some knowledge of ST (up to Next Gen, at least), cause I think it would be funny if, when Xander wakes up in Sick Bay after the Doctor and crew fight diligently to save him, he takes one look at their uniforms and tricorders and cuts loose with a several minute long, multi-lingual blue streak. After which, the computer, which stopped translating after the third language shift, simply remains quiet for a moment before stating, "Watch your mouth." I can just imagine Janeway's horror when she notices Seven noting down several of the phrases to look up and add to her linguistic matrix.

I always got the idea that while many of the women in the Buffy-verse didn't really respect Xander all that much (and honestly, aside from his likely abuse-driven desire to protect his loved ones, his sense of humor, and his hit-and-miss perceptiveness, there wasn't really much to respect. even after the O'Toole episode, he didn't really respect himself all that much, just let his life drift), they all loved him in their own ways. Cordelia and Faith I liked a lot more than Buffy and Willow, and I really wanna see how Faith reacts to the news that Xander is dead. My fav stories are the ones where she and Xander help fix each other, but obviously that won't be happening in this one.

Since everyone on Voyager contributes, what could Xander do on board? They don't need a carpenter or a demon fighter, and he's not star-fleet trained or really even educated enough to function on a star fleet vessel. Who's going to teach him to live and contribute? Is that an in for Seven?

As to the whole ST canon in Buffy-verse, just use the old, "Imagination and creativity are vestigial links to the CREATOR. Anything you imagine is actually real somewhere else," standby. I think Q would love to stop by and quip off of Xander. Xander would probably be the only person on the ship who, while joking with Q, still respect just what he's capable of and have enough experience with other-worldly beings to know how to stay on Q's good side. It's a shame you're bringing Xander in after Death Wish in season 2. I think he would have made a better arbiter for the second Q than Tuvok.
Comments from author:
Xander is the only crossover for the foreseeable future. If we see any of the others, it would only be one or two and because of severely dire circumstances. Take that for what you will. ;)

I've debated long and hard as to what knowledge, if any, Xander would have about the Star Trek franchise, and I've decided the answer is none. All BtVS canon references to ST will therefore have to be ignored. The more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea of Xander having any knowledge of starships, the Prime Directive, or future events. It would negate the ingenuity we have come to expect of the Voyager crew if there was someone present who had temporal knowledge of the Federation, etc. I want to write how Xander adapts to the situation, rather than how the crew adapts to him. So, in essence, he's been catapulted into the future, not an alternate universe. Although, your idea about Xander's swearing, and Janeway and Seven's reactions to it made me LOL for a good long while.

I agree somewhat with your assessment of Xander, but I chalk that up to bad writing. His character never had an arc the way Buffy, Willow, or even Spike and Anya had. Cordelia had one once she was delivered to Angel, but then her character was completely assassinated. There could have been a lot more to Xander, but it just wasn't written that way, in part, I believe, to the belief that one character needed to be relatively stable and static (which I think was a waste). I completely agree with your take on Cordelia and Faith. I love Faith, but I'm not sure if she'll make an appearance in this one. I'm still debating. Neither Buffy nor Cordy would care enough about Faith to tell her of Xander's death, and having it conveyed by Angel is uninteresting to me. I'm not sure about that. I'll have to think about it some more.

As for what Xander will do on board, that has to do with what happened to him while in open space. But that won't be revealed for a while. I'm not even sure how much he would be expected to contribute, given the circumstances. I can't imagine Janeway forcing him into anything, though he might be qualified to help Neelix in the Mess Hall. At any rate, I have plans for how Xander can service Voyager, but I'm not sure how people will react to it. In fact, I'm already anticipating the loss of readers and dismayed reviews. Ah, well. Que sera!

Q will definitely be stopping by, as he also has a unique function to perform in this.
