Review of chapter "Chapter Six" from sdavidm
Review:
Great chapter. I can see Faith and Conan getting along famously, though he may very well be the one to tame her wildness.

Thank you! Sorry I took so long to reply.

Review:
A very fun read, and I can't wait for the next installment. Tara rarely gets enough love, and its wonderful to see her take center stage again, and blossom in some very unusual circumstances indeed.
And then adding Faith too? Faith makes almost everything better. Yay!
Thanks for writing!

Thank you!

My original intention had been to go back to this story this week but the reaction I've had to 'The King of Elfland's Daughter' has made me change my mind. I'll be sticking with that story until it's finished and the next chapter of this one will be delayed accordingly.

I am really loving this story so far! I especially like how you have solved the language problem. Very clever! I am looking forward to Faith's adventures here, as well as to Tara and Olaf's reunion!
Thanks for the fun story, and keep up the good work!

Those Inns are where the spies tend to hang out. Dovetailed very nicely into the story and gave the perfect quantum cat possibility. I wonder if a combination of assists from both magical players will play hell with intentions. Thanks for updating.

Stupid girls! You never, ever discuss things like that until all is resolved! A good chapter. Though it makes me fear ever more for Willow's relationship with Tara. Though some intensive training from Pelias might be good for Willow.

Thanks for writing
Comments from author:
Training under Pelias might well be good for Willow but he's thousands of years away from her, and in another dimension, and doesn't offer correspondence courses.

Thank you!

Review:
AHA! Faith the Buff Barbarian perhaps???

Once again this chapter was worth the wait.

Although I've never read the books I'm told that the recent 'Conan' film is more like the books than the Arnie version. I have to say I much prefer the more 'considered' approach of this Conan to the 'hit it with a big sword' approach of the Arnie-Conan.

Oh-well, I suppose its too much to hope that the next chapter won't be so long in coming as this one?

Here's hoping.

Comments from author:
Faith the Buff Barbarian was movie-verse and I'm strictly book-verse. Although my dislike of the movies pales into insignificance compared with my virulent hatred of the Dark Horse comics (the Marvel ones were fairly good, apart from their gratuitous insertion of Red Sonja into the Hyborian Age).

No promises on when the next chapter will come - it's Tabula Avatar next, I'm 6,250 words into the next chapter of that - but I very much doubt if it'll be anything like as long as this gap was.

Thank you!

Review of chapter "Chapter Five" from draconis
Review:
A dungeon, scantily clad young women, and a "Tentacle Monster"!! Gutsy move.

And to top it off, you even made the TM "unbobbittable". :)

Definitely glad to see this story continue. Looking forward to Olaf and Conan (and the odd wizard friend?) hooking up with Tara and Roshana to see just how much trouble they can get into. Ishtar help us all.

The occasional pop-up non-sequiturs are fun (like the random thought about koalas).

I recall that in canon Willow told Fred she was seeing someone, but I'm wondering if Fred plays a future role in helping with the inevitable relationship issues. Guess we'll see.
Comments from author:
Thank you! The tentacle monster is canon; Conan has an encounter with it during his escape from the dungeon in the original R E Howard story "The Scarlet Citadel". And the 'unbobbitable' aspect was also inspired by that encounter, as Conan strongly suspects that his sword will be unable to cleave its otherworldly matter. It's never put to the test, however, as Conan is holding a flaming torch and the creature doesn't come close enough for him to need to engage it in combat.

Fred is, at this time, dating Gunn.

Nice continuation. While all of the story strands had good bits this time, I think my favorite was Giles' comment about losing his deposit on the car if Spike burned up, certainly not any love lost between those two. Looking forward to the next section.

Well. Worth the wait? Yes I suppose it has to be, because it does satisfy on so many points. Spike and Rupert in Africa the scoobs in sunnydale and the gorgeous girls in the land sorcery and sword play. I still have the voice of RBH's character in my head. The voice is imaginary and I can't tell you who it is either, that is my story and I am sticking to it. Bringing a survivor of Conans adventures in to the story is a nice touch.

Olgerd Vladislav will have a further part to play in the story...

Review:
This is a great story and one of the best Conan fanfics I've read (there's a real dearth of those). I feel sad that it had somehow escaped my notice before. I am a huge fan of Conan -- the books, the movies and even played the Age of Conan MMO game for a quite a while (you should give that a try if you haven't already, now that it's free-to-play; I think the developers have been fairly true to Howard's vision), so this has been a real treat!

In addition, this has been one of the better portrayals of Tara that I've read (there are few stories where she takes central stage) and Roshan is a pretty likeable OC. Unlike several other reviewers, I am rooting for Tara/Roshan to stay together and the "rescue" by Willow and Co. to not work exactly as the latter hope.
Comments from author:
Thank you very much!

I have tried to play Age of Conan, when I found that it had become free-to-play, but I couldn't work out how to register. I ended up in one of those loops where you can't complete step A without having done step B but when you try to do step B it refers you back to step A. All I managed to play was the demo - which did influence me in describing the Kothian ladies' costumes.

Stormwreath on LiveJournal has an excellent Conan crossover story, a crossover featuring Willow, partially completed. Unfortunately he seems to have got caught up in other things and hasn't done any more of it for a very long time. And, unlike some other authors (such as myself, MarcusRowland, and jedibuttercup) who will set aside stories for months or even years but then return to them, Stormwreath's normal pattern seems to be to write a story until it's finished. So he might not ever complete the Conan one.

Review of chapter "Chapter Four" from PATM
Review:
Thank god Tara is settling in. The description of the clothing culture is based on some of the illustrations is stepping unapologetically into comedy, yeah? If Howard ever mentioned clothes in a cultural sense I skipped it for more descriptions of a glittering swords spraying cast off blood of giant snakes across the golden sand, etc. Lots of thigh in sword and sorcery is a good thing but
I don't believe it went on outside of the seraglio.
Comments from author:
I took the clothing designs from the Conan Roleplaying Game by Mongoose Publishing, the 'Conan Chronicles' mod for Neverwinter Nights 2 by John McA alias Dr_Sungh, and from actual historical Roman mosaics. I decided not to base it on John Buscema's artwork for 'The Savage Sword of Conan' when I realised that his designs, although they look good, would need a lot of tailoring to fit. The Mongoose Publishing versions of Ophirean and Kothian clothing can be bought off the shelf and worn by almost anyone straight away - which fitted the requirements of the plot. And the month of Yuluk, in which this story takes place, is August by our calendar so the girls won't get too cold.
