Review of chapter "Chapter One" from (Current Donor)Speakertocustomers
Review:
This isn't a crossover. It should be in the category 'BtVS Non-Crossovers' instead of 'Surprise Crossovers'. Unless the Philadelphia Eagles are a fictional team despite Wikipedia claiming that they really exist.

The concept on which the story is based is impossible. Philadelphia is 5 hours behind the UK. When it is 3 pm UK time (the usual starting time for a game of real football) it is 10 in the morning in Philadelphia. Your 'slow-motion-rugby-in-armour' games don't start at ten in the morning, do they? Unless they do there is no way that there could be a scheduling clash between a Manchester United game and a Philadelphia Eagles game.

And, as the English football season in 2002 ended on 11th May, Manchester United wouldn't even have been playing at the time Spike was returning to the USA after his trip to Africa. What was taking place at the time was the World Cup. England played two friendly matches in late May as a warm-up, against South Korea on 21st May and against Cameroon on 26th May, and their actual competitive matches started on 2nd June. As these matches were played in South Korea and Japan, 8 hours ahead of the UK and 13 hours ahead of Philadelphia, the chance of any scheduling clash with an American Football game is even lower.

Those points aside, the story was mildly amusing.
Comments from author:
While I am usually a stickler for realism, the story is about a vampire walking into a sports bar. When we read fiction of any kind, the point is for people to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy it. I have no doubt that you are right with the timing difference, but that wasn't the point.

The point, was to make a 'mildly amusing' story, with a character I never used before. Take it for what it is, not what you feel it should be. One last thing, that 'slow-motion-rugby-in-armour' happens to be the best sport on earth.

Thank you for the review.

Nice very nice I'm Cowboys fan myself despite how crappy the team is right now. God I miss the days of Emmitt Smith.
Comments from author:
I hear you, even with Vick we aren't doing that good either. I couldn't help but take a jab at the Cowboys, the whole 'America's team' thing always irked me. But I definitely do miss Smith, regardless of the team, he was a fantastic player.

Thanks for the review.

Thanks.
Not really a football fan. I blame the Lions. I loved the panthers. Oh well. I'm a die hard hockey fan. The Wings almost make up for the lions. I like baseball and basket ball too. Anyway thanks for the sympathy. I hope you have more fics with Spike and his new team. It was a blast to read. Maybe have he and angel argue one day.

Comments from author:
The Wings definitely do well for the city, similar to how the Phillies are keeping us going. I'd probably like hockey more if it were the seventies style still. I like my hockey bloody.

I'm not really big on Spike to be honest, a conversation I had in a bar last night actually inspired this story. Since Philadelphia fans are supposed to be the worst in the country, a bunch of us were debating what would happen if we got into a fight with a bunch of English soccer hooligans.

The ending to the story was my answer, we'd be so much alike, we'd probably get along real well. That said, I won't rule out another Spike story at some point in the future.

Thanks for the review.

Yeah they got heart. Unlike some. They never give up.

(Lions are our team much to our eternal grief)

Believe me I feel for you. The Eagles coming so close so many times, just to kick Philly in the balls hurts real bad. But remember, no team is bad forever. Look at the Cardinal's, the perennial losers went to the Superbowl not too long ago.
