Excellent work ! I liked the way you adapted scenes from the original films into the story. I'll be looking for the rest of this series.

This is an excellent story, and I was sad to see it end. Having the Xandernator being sent to save Faith, possibly by a higher power was a great idea. I always thought she got a raw deal in Sunnydale, I'm hoping it'll have a nicer ending this time around.
Comments from author:
Thanks! I know, this is hardly the longest 'fic online; I originally considered incorporating lots of additional events (which have since ended up forming the first two chapters of the Collected Data Files) into 'No Fate', but after some experimentation I felt it was a bit too clunky for my tastes, so I wound up streamlining NF to make it as much a Terminator-style story as I could.

I also have a bit of a soft spot for Faith, and like the idea of her getting a better hand than the one Joss and Co. dealt her - being firmly inside the Scooby Gang instead of being a semi-outcast, forming a close and enduring friendship with Buffy as sister Slayers instead of being rivals and even bitter enemies... So, while I won't give too many spoilers away, I will say that you can take it as read that things will turn out rather differently from canon... and I think you might like where I plan for everyone to eventually end up. ;)

While a part of me has to wonder about such issues as how Xander could have been 'programmed' with knowledge of Faith BEFORE he met her- and the Angel fan in me is a bit let down that he STILL ends up getting staked-, the central premise of this story is so fascinating that I am DEFINITELY keeping an eye on this series...
Comments from author:
Oh, don't worry - I do have an explanation for how the T-890 was programmed to protect Faith despite Xander having had not the slightest inkling of her existence; an explanation more detailed than simply blaming it on the chaos magic involved in Ethan's spell, I might add, and one that will most certainly be revealed in due course.

As for Angel... well, I wanted to put a scene in to establish EXACTLY when in BtVS canon the bulk of the action in 'No Fate' was taking place. The moment Buffy sent Angel to hell to save the world was easily one of the most (if not THE most) iconic moments of BtVS Season 2, and is therefore easily recognised by fans, so that seemed to fit my bill. Besides... you know he'll be back. ;)

Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed my work! :) More parts of this series will be coming soon, and I have extensive plans for the series' progression.

Many thanks,

El

Great work. Always fun to relive some of the scenes from the original movie, this time targeting people who deserve it :)
I wonder how Faith would turn out with someone like that on her side? Any confrontations with Buffy might go a little differently. (Has visions of a T800 holding Buffy off the ground - No. I won't let you down until you have calmed down.)
Comments from author:
Thank you kindly. :)

Yes, one of the things I determined early on in planning 'No Fate' was that a Terminator needs to be free to really -act- like a Terminator - and, frankly, killing humans is (literally) what they're built to do best. I originally thought about using the Los Angeles branch of W&H, but... it just felt too soon, and explaining how on earth they got hold of Faith from the other side of the continent would have been a lot of aggro, so... enter W&H: Boston. ;)

Faith's development: well, this is something I'll be exploring in this series. In canon, one of her main stumbling blocks seemed to be that she didn't have anyone who was completely and unquestioningly in her corner; in the NF series, she has a Terminator (the only real live Terminator anywhere in the whole UNIVERSE, no less) who is programmed to protect her, follow her every command, and for whom she will always be his first priority no matter what - in short, someone she can completely trust and depend on.

I may be mistaken, but I'm guessing that little lot's going to help her quite a bit...

Hmm, well, that could make for an entertaining scene in which Buffy spars with a T-800; the T-800 just grabs her by the scruff of her neck, and dangles her in the air while she swipes ineffectually at the T-800 and playfully accuses him of being 'a big meanie' until she finally concedes defeat and asks to be let down. :)

Thank you for the review,

El

WOW
That was awesome! I liked how you kept some of the stuff from the movies in the plot, but kept it original enough to be something new. Xander as a terminator, especially a 800 series, has always been one of my favorite fic ideas. Thank you for letting us read your work and I can't wait to read more of it.

Sincerely

John
Comments from author:
Thank you very much, John, and I'm glad you're enjoying the series so far.

I know what you mean about the 800 Series range - especially since the T-888s were introduced in the Sarah Conner Chronicles. The T-1000 and T-X designs are extremely powerful and fun concepts to play with, but there's something about the T-800 range (the 800, 801, 850 and 888 Series), something rather appealing and charismatic. The T-800s are tough and powerful, but still have some vulnerabilities, can learn things from humans, can become distinctive individuals in their own rights... and being able to open them up to adjust their CPUs or graft modifications onto their combat chassis is rather appealing too, of course. ;)

You're more than welcome, John, and I am continuing to post new material (at least, I am whenever my Web connection's working properly), and hopefully the new chapters will prove to be just as much to your liking.

Many thanks again,

El

Thank you - and, yup, I am continuing the 'No Fate' series, although not this particular fanfic. (Maybe it's just me, but I think it works well enough as a one-shot.)

Oh, sheep!!

This is gonna be a great series. One does feel sorry for Willow, she's gonna have the hardest time accepting this, but I pray she does.

The XH will NOT appreciate her jeapordizing Faith by trying to undo his creation.
Comments from author:
Thank you very much, and I hope I live up to your expectations. :)

Yuppers, Willow's going to have a -very- difficult time accepting this... first losing Jesse, then thinking she'd lost Xander, then Angelus is unleashed, then Buffy runs away... and then Xander returns, after a fashion, and later Buffy too... and both of them are decidedly different.

Yep, you can definitely count on the T-890 to be unamused by anyone trying to transform him back into a human being. ;)

Sorry, couldn't help myself. This is so awesome, I can't wait for more!

Thank you kindly! And please, it's no trouble at all - I'm just glad you're enjoying my work. I've just posted Chapter 2 of the Collected Data Files, and rest assured that more chapters ARE in the works. (I've got rough plans drawn up for the first twenty fanfics of this series, and I'm working on rough drafts of several chapters of the Collected Data Files and the following couple of 'fics in the series.)

Wow, wow, frakking WOW! I am sitting in front of my computer buzzing with adrenaline from just reading your story. This might be the best Terminator/BtVS cross I've ever read. I so look forward to more of your story. I just hope that there is still some of Xander still in the Terminator unit.
Comments from author:
Thank you VERY much! That's exactly the sort of experience I was hoping to give to my readers - you really took a load off my mind, there. :)

I'm really, really glad you're enjoying the series, and I hope I can continue to deliver more of the same to your liking.

As for what's left of Xander in the T-890... well, we'll see. ;)

Review:
WOW! Pretty intense! That's what I can say. There's something I don't quite understand. How is Xander more advanced than the average T-101?
Comments from author:
Thank you - that's the sort of impression I was hoping to make. :)

As for comparisons of the capabilities of different Terminator models, I think the exchange between Faith and the T-890 in Chapter 2 of the Collected Data Files is just what you're looking for:

http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-23620-2/Elgin+No+Fate+The+Collected+Data+Files.htm

The scene in question also contains a comparison between the T-890 and Faith's respective abilities and limitations.

By the way, the 'Model 101' descriptor used in relation to Terminators refers to the type of skin sheath they wear, while the 'Series' refers to the combat chassis and programming. Arnold Schwarzenegger played two Series 800 Terminators in the first two 'Terminator' films, and a Series 850 in 'Terminator 3'; all three Terminators were fitted with Model 101 skin sheaths. (So, any Terminator fitted with a Model 101 skin sheath looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger; the 'Model 105' skin sheath is something I made up for this 'fic, and in theory another Terminator could also look like Xander Harris if it could get fitted with another Model 105 skin sheath.) When a Terminator is referred to using an abbreviated descriptor, it generally consists of 'T-' placed before the Series number. (So, for example, the shorthand way to refer to the Terminator Xander has become is 'T-890'; Arnold Schwarzenegger has played two T-800s and a T-850... you get the idea.) Hope this helps. :)
