Review of chapter "Why do you Hate Him?" from Oxnate
Oh thank god, someone else who doesn't believe that Faith was going to kill Xander that night when Angel 'saved' him.

Review of chapter "Why do you Hate Him?" from Gideon
Interesting explanation of lots of disparate events. My problem with it would be that Angel never did anything positive, rather than saying he would never do so many negative things. If Angel went to such great lengths to keep Xander loveless why did he never try to improve Xander's relationship with him? Angel never even tried to be friendly to Xander, so saying that he secretly loved him the whole time is a bit too much of a stretch for me. Also I like nice happy stories more than sad stories, no matter how well written :)

Gotta say, Poe, you really went the extra mile in coming up with an alternative explanation to why the Scoobies had such poor luck with love and relationship, since "it was Jasmine or the PTBs!" seems to be a common trope for having 7 years of bad luck explained, though the Scoobies themselves weren't completely innocent in their actions as the efforts of one's manipulator of choice can only go so far if certain "rules" from the series are followed.
Still, I was definitely manically giggling with excitement by the end of Ch. 1 from Dawn laying Angel's plans out like tarot cards...and bellyshaking at the final scene, with Dawn's wish starting to come into effect. I think my only gripe about this story is Angel's motivations for the most part, since while the Buffyverse had it canonically inferred that Angel has participated in same sex intimacy at least once in his history, I wasn't totally onboard with Angel secretly wanting Xander sexually. Maybe Angel realizing early on that Xander was gonna make his half-assed efforts at "redemption" by giving Buffy cryptic comments and being all Mr. Mysterious look pitiful, spoiling the plans of the PTB toward getting Angel as an active Champion or something ;D

Oh ho! This is just so deliciously evil! What a twisted mind your Angel has. Sure, we learned all about his penchant for torture in the series, not to mention his obsessions and sick habit of stalking his victims, destroying their families, and trying to psychically break them before he killed them. Is it cannon or simply fan fic that calls Dru his "best work"? Either way, it's true. But this thing with Xander here? It's certainly a runner up; though definitely more subtle, and deceitfully underhanded. But then, he'd over a century since Dru to refine his techniques...
Great story! A 9 out of 10 rating. That's high for me when I'm not a big fan of shorts. I'd give it a 10, save for that and my own personal bias--it's still hard for me to give any story a perfect 10, especially when it involves a Scooby death.
Thanks for writing and sharing this.

You know, most people forget that Angel was a womanizing playboy before he was turned. If fact he was turned by what he thought was a whore. He wasn't worth spitting on when he was alive. Why should he be any more 'good' as an undead? I like your story.

You have a bit of a "thing" for D'Hoffryn - he is your 'go-to guy'.:-) [with both this story and 'Lament'].
Ah well - we all have our favourites - and actually I wouldn't mind seeing more stories with D'Hoffryn and inventive vengeances; however, everyone must remember that D'Hoffryn is not a charity and he will when the opportunity arises twist wishes - such as when he destroyed Halfrek in response to Anya's self-sacrificial intending wish (of course, that was in special circumstances - to reverse a prior wish).
Again, your story writing is good, even when it goes in a direction people maybe weren't fully expecting.

Review of chapter "The Truth of Her Existence" from missinglink
Fitting followup and finish to this tangent. Was thinking more about your arguement for Angel's interest in Xander and there may be other arguments in defense of it.
For instance, while Angel did not turn Spike, he was always walking a thin line with him in the flashbacks shown on Angel. Unlike Penn, Angel stayed with Spike as the Scourage of Europe for a while and Spike in some limited ways shares traits similar to Xander. Things like his perseverence, his cleverness (maybe not his wit, but his repeated insight in matters), his devotion to the women in his life (Spike first with Dru and later Buffy, Xan with all his girls), the gentler soul (Spike's poetry and Xander's comfortador) and their uncanny ability to survive and thwart seemingly impossible odds. Now there was some hints at times to maybe some relationship between Angelus and Spike, with mostly it being Angelus rubbing his superiority in Spike's nose, but it could be argued as either a father/son fight for dominance or a dom/sub fight with Spike's unwillingness to be sub to Angelus. In Xander Angel could have been seeing some qualities that he liked in Spike previously and in a position where he would always be dominant. Xander's flat hatred of vampires put a crimp in things, but with Angel playing the long game and not being gay, merely finding in Xander qualities he wants but is denied, he lays out his efforts. To think that the big obsticle removed and then still turned down for whatever reason would bring out the vindictiveness in him and to top that with his feeling of all the effort being for naught it is likely he would take out Xander and then accept whatever second place or balm he could find. Buffy being someone he felt something for and being a steady ego stroke would be first choice.
Again overall was a very interesting play out and big props for the punishment and close to the tale. Lot's left open, but certainty that he will get his just desserts was spot on. Thanks again! Later.

Lol! Now this has to be one of the darkest most evil 'funny' stories I've ever read. I don't think Dawn has to worry about Hell. Even if she does get sent to a Hell dimension, I'm sure Xander will eventually bust her out. He always takes care of his girls. Once again, this was one of the best dark shivers-down-the-spine BtVS stories I've ever read. And Dawn's vengeance wish was a classic.

Oh yeah - if Xander was seen as the practical one, to do what needs to be done to prevent others from doing it and carrying the burden, then Dawn was the next practical one in the family (with Giles in there as well of course - he did prove himself in removing Ben after all) and so I find it rather fitting she is the one to come up with such a perfect vengeance wish against Angel. Though I imagine she was very shocked when it was Xander who was removed from the game and not herself after the confrontation she had with Angel.
I can so very much see Angel having Xander removed if he wouldn't love him like he wanted. He always struck me as a rather selfish person and that a 'if I can't have you then no one can' would easily occur as well as to cover his tracks so that Xander wouldn't figure out what Dawn did in the first chapter.
And you know what... I don't think anyone has ever had Buffy go and ask that question before any where! It is perfect though and so logical and yet overlooked in canon and fanfics. Completely up there and beyond just calling bullshit on not being able to breathe (if you can talk and Spike can smoke then obviously you can focus and breathe). And to be honest the only other conversation I've never seen with Angel 'bringing' Xander is why Xander and not someone more skilled like Giles (why pick the teenager over the watcher at that point in canon if your thinking about it logically) and the whole situation could so easily be unraveled to show the huuuuuge wholes in the story and see that Xander was the one charging in as the hero.
