Another reason why Severus made the wrong choice by signing up with the death eaters. Kinda hard to avoid when you are in that house though I guess. And he tried to make up for it later. After Lily was dead :(

True, and sad. Although I'd disagree that Slytherin is almost a default prerequisite for Death Eater. As for Snape himself, I think he was just so desperate to be accepted by anyone that he fell in with the wrong crowd - the very wrong crowd - and that perhaps he was even driven towards that choice by James Potter's constant taunting.
