Hmmm, now would be a good time to contact that blond colonel from the Air Force...

Oh no that would be too easy.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from WhippingDawn
Review:
"Faith was able to pick out the positions of the insurgents and punish them for disturbing a lady while she was dealing with a call of nature."

HA! Couldn't have said that better myself!

A short but not sweet story. Apparently, Faith is punished for being too good. Stupid Army! (And I'm not aiming at the US Army here, that kind of moronism is rampant in all big organizations)

On my way to #6!
Comments from author:
This was written as a sort of place holder to let people know I was going on with the idea, this is why its only a short story.

As for the other thing, yep in a way Faith is being punished for being too good. But like the Capt says; hearing about female soldiers getting killed upset civilians while they're having their breakfast!

Cheers,
D.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from maxthehobbit
Review:
Looks like this is a set-up for the next story, but the bit about getting shot in the ass was good. Typical military behavior making jokes about getting shot in the posterior, but they never would have joked if her life was in danger. Short but good for a laugh. Can't wait to read the next story.
Comments from author:
Next story is the 'Heartbreak Rodge' xover I think. Anyway this was writen as a result of the good reaction I got from the previous story.

There will be others, I've even got a couple of them writen all I've got to do now is find time to post them!

This story came about because I was wandering about on You Tube and just found the song. I thought, there has to be a fic there!

And yes I've seen this sort of humour in real life!

Cheers,
D.

Leave it to soldiers to make butt jokes in a situation like this.
That had me in stitches, by the way.

Thanks for posting.

This is amazing. I applaud your well written story and how everything that you wrote Fits together so nicely. I especially like the humour. I really can't wait to see what will happen next if/when you write more about Army!Faith and her adventures. Keep up the good work!
Comments from author:
Thank-you very much for your review.

I hope you'll be glad to hear I've written another Faith in the Army story (although this is more of a Faith and the Marines story!) to follow on from this one. I also have a complete(ish) career track with several more stories planned for this series. I'll be posting it some time after I've finished posting the 'Grim up North' stories so that'll be in a month or so.

Once again thank-you and I hope you like the following stories in this series.

Dave.

I must have missed this previously - love to see more. Thinking of possible Army crossovers, and wondering if she might end up assigned to the Army equivalent of NCIS and working with Gibbs.
Comments from author:
Thanks. Have no fear I've lots of ideas for 'Faith in the Army', now I've got to find the time to write them! I've a couple of ideas for an NCIS xover but I don't know which one to do. One of them involves Colonel Mann of Army CID, we'll see how it goes.

Cheers,
Dave.

Review:
When I first read this 'fic, by the time I reached the end I was laughing so hard that I nearly fell out of my chair. :)

The comedy element of this 'fic is a well-sculpted masterpiece and a true delight: from the moment the first volley of mortar bombs land, it just keeps on building up and up and up, growing with each fresh line of dialogue and piece of action; right through the point where the hapless insurgent waiting to see the whites of Faith's, erm... buttocks; until it finally crescendos with Scream giving his 'sage advice' to that poor wet-behind-the-ears lieutenant. I'm pretty sure that at that point I must have scared the daylights out of my neighbours, seeing how I was cackling fit to bust like I'd been gassed with the Joker's Smilex.

Next on my reading list HAS to be the first 'fic of this series, and I'm really looking forward to one day reading future instalments. :)

Nice ref to 'Zulu', by the way.

I think the closest thing I have from real life anecdote-wise was when I was hiking through the New Forest with some mates of mine (a decade or so ago, now, back when we were younger and dumber and still teenagers) - one of them squatted to 'take care of business' only to end up getting chased off by a couple of New Forest Ponies; the rest of us heard some panicked screaming, then we saw her burst out of the treeline, yelling bloody murder, half-running and half-hopping with her jeans and knickers nearly down around her knees and dash across in front of us and vanish into another patch of forest, with the enraged (or possibly just curious? It's hard to tell) ponies cantering along in hot pursuit. Once the crisis was over, dear friends that we were, we laughed long and hard with youthful abandon at her expense later on many an occasion.

Many thanks for sharing this marvel of comedy/social realism fanfiction with us, and best wishes with your future literary endeavours.

El ;)

Edited to add:

You're more than welcome. :)

Hmm, nice one finding the song - the closest I've gotten to that myself is

Zulu ref: yup, the 'puts people off their breakfasts' comment is what I was referring to. And I know exactly what you mean: I've been watching it repeatedly since my early teens, so I've got a fair bit of the dialogue memorised myself. (And have occasionally been known to participate in conversations in which I've only spoken using quotes from the film.)
"If it's a miracle, Colour Sergeant, it's a short chamber Boxer-Henry .45 calibre miracle."
"And a bayonet, sir, with some guts behind it."
- Classic. Just classic. ;) And the cinematography is frankly beautiful - every shot perfectly framed, the colours well-defined... a true masterpiece.

The future of Staff Sergeant Lehane: excellent - I'm definitely looking forward to seeing those. :) Would you like a beta reader for this series, perchance? I'm currently working on my own 'No Fate' series, but I could make the time if you'd like.

Looking through the other reviews, it seems a lot of your readers are banking on Faith winding up at the SGC... so, just for a bit of variety, I thought I'd toss my own tuppen'orth of a guess in: is there any chance she'll end up attached to Red Troop from 'Ultimate Force' at some point in her career? (It's a mad suggestion, I know, but it's certainly original...)

Best wishes,

El ;)
Comments from author:
Thank-you for your very nice review. When you hear how someone enjoyed one of your fics so much it makes it all worthwhile.

I wrote this fic because I found the song that gives it its title and thought I had to write something to go along with it. It also helped keep this version of Faith in the public eye.

The previous Fic in this series, is a much more 'military' based story but still has humour in it but not to the same degree as this one.

When you mentioned the 'Zulu' reference I must admit I sat there and said, 'What Zulu reference?' This bugged me so much (I'm putting in Zulu references and not noticing!) that I read the fic through again. If you meant the 'puts people off their breakfasts' comment then I see what you mean and yes it was a deliberate reference. I mean I've watched that film so many times I think I must be word perfect!

Future stories in this series; I've got about four idea's. I'm about half way through one but I got a bit stuck so I'm writing something else before going back to it. Plus I've written some scenes that I hope to work into future fics. So there will be more of Staff Sergeant Lehane, but I'm not sure when!

Once again thanks for the review and Rec,

Cheers
Dave.

Review:
Howdy,

Bad S. Sgt. Faith! Your weapon should never be more than a arm's reach from you at all times! Heh, like you can EVER truly achieve it inside a vehicle....

Being caught with your pants down, HAH! Nearly happened to me once, but managed to do three things at once...plus Somalis could shoot worth a damn.

Nice reference to 'ZULU' one of the great war films of all time!

Oh, and its 'mags' or 'magazines,' in the US military. Common mistake even the best make. Your out long enough, even vets backslide.
Clips are those little strips of metal that hold the rounds in groups of ten that are then fed into said mag that is then inserted into said weapon or rifle (NEVER gun! yes SIR, DRILL INSTRUSCTOR!). Ah, fond memories.
Comments from author:
Yes I know very naughty, but like you say it happens.

Did you know that 'ZULU' was actually made as an ANTI-war film? Somehow I don't think they got the message across.

Interesting about the clips/magazines. That is exactly what we called them in the British army. But in all the TV and films everyone seems to call them 'clips'. Oh well thats TV and Movies for you!

Cheers, glad you liked,
Dave.

How about a training facility? Or SGC? Any posting in the world.... Great read, again!
Comments from author:
One of the problems about doing a military based xover is that most TV/Movies with the military in them are so appalling! 'Over There' was a rare exception (in my opinion), unfortunately it got canned after one season...typical really.

However, I think I've thought of a way around this, Staff Sergeant Lehane will ride again in what we hope will be interesting and exciting stories...as soon as I get round to writing them!

Cheers,
Dave.

At least they ended up with a lieutenant who's human.
Do I sense Faith will be diverted when she's back in the States, before her final destination.
Trouble follows her, so why should she be disappointed.
